wait did you also think that axca was keith's sister/half-sister??? because im honestly disappointed that's not what ended up happening?? you can literally generate so much backstory about axca just from that?? like hell, krolia could've been separated from acxa for some reason and we could have had some cute ass reunion with krolia revealing "oh btw, this is ur half-sister." idk man im just no chill with this crush thing?? it feels so forced idk.
I thought it was the most likely of the theories that I’d seen out there. And I thought it was nearly certain after we met Krolia, since they have identical eyes, similar builds, and they both fight with a blaster. The only thing I couldn’t reconcile was that, with Krolia’s actions and words to Keith, once they’d reunited, I couldn’t understand how she and Axca could have separated.
Something I was looking forward to finding out in s7 was Axca’s backstory, her connection to Keith and her history with Lotor. So, while I wasn’t exactly disappointed with the ‘crush’ explanation, it just... felt off. It wasn’t impossible, it just seemed to come out of left field to me. VLD is really good with interpersonal relationships, and I just hadn’t been getting that vibe from Axca.
But it occured to me. The day s7 was released. If Krolia had gone straight back to the blades after leaving Earth, had she been pregnant the child would have been raised as a blade. And we know now that blades are tied to a weilder’s life force and are passed on in families. If Axca really was Krolia’s daughter she wouldn’t have had a blade because Krolia had left her blade with Keith. She’d also have been highly trained, so the fact that she was younger wouldn’t matter.
If the blade had the resources to have a member in nearly every scouting party in the search for the lions, surely they’d have wanted to place someone in proximity to Zarkon’s only heir - exile or not. And they just so happened to have a half-galra agent skilled in non-blade weaponry.
Lotor is far too careful to have missed that Axca was a blade agent, if she was. But Lotor is careful with his resources, and he’s not cruel. And he wanted to overthrow Zarkon just as much as the blades did.
He wouldn’t trust someone to be loyal to him. But he might trust someone to be loyal to the blades. If he could count on Axca always being a blade first and anything else second, that handily explained why they would work together even after her betrayal. She would support him as long as their ideals aligned: peace, an end to conquering. All the things that Lotor preached.
Which would be why, despite everything that came beforehand, when Lotor threatened to wipe out the Galra Axca couldn’t work with him any longer.
And of course, Axca is still undercover. Krolia and Keith, as blades themselves would know never to reveal another agent unless they revealed themselves first.
It just.
It makes more sense to me this way, then to just handwave it away as a crush. And really, there’s nothing in canon so far to contradict this theory. Sure Zethrid and Ezor assume Axca has a crush, but neither she or keith ever react to the accusation.
And when she shows up at their father’s grave in s7e13? She’s not smiling because she’s seeing Keith, she’s smiling because for the first time in her entire life her family is together.
As of right now, I've got four of the daddies.
