Just found out that I had been using the wrong terminology for years for “naturally dwarfed and distorted examples of a species” I was using the phrase , “naturally bonsai” while that would be an oxymoron. The Japanese term “bonsai” refers to the unnatural dwarfing and distorting of a specimen in cultivation to mimic a much larger tree using handed down techniques, a form of meticulous meditation, training the tree to offset the weight then reset the center of gravity later, over lifespans, in an ornamental container.”Penzai” is the similar Chinese word but involves utilization of a miniature landscape in the container. “Hon Non Bo” <-- prob butchered this is landscaping with a collection of trained and dwarfed specimens in a garden.
The word that mean a naturally dwarfed and distorting of a species, especially in rock surface and at high altitudes where wind exposure and moisture content is apparent, is referred to as “a Krumholtz individual.”
