I just read the new chapter of Kill Six Billion Demons and oh my Gog did it contain some interesting character development for our silly little jester!
If it isn't already super obvious, I'll be talking about some major spoilers for Kill Six Billion Demons.
We already thought Gog-Agog was pretty powerful in the fact that they seemingly can't be killed. But now we know that they're practically older than time and have seen the multiverse reset multiple times. Throughout the comic, since their introduction, we see them destroyed multiple times only to come back somehow - either through regeneration or taking over a new host body. Looking back at the big battle with Jagganoth, they literally split themselves into a multitude the size of a planet. From this, we can theorize that even if they are broken into millions of pieces, they would still be able to come back.
This reminds me of the "Sea Sponge Theory" that Tiger Tiger's protagonist has. Ludovica theorizes that sea sponges have the longest life forms and that they predated any other creature in their world's seas. In a later chapter, there's a flashback to Ludo's childhood when she accidentally steps on a sea sponge, breaks it into several pieces, and is distraught at the thought of killing it. But in a later summer to that same location, she sees that the broken pieces of the sea sponge have developed into multiple individual sea sponges. She compares the humble sea sponge's potentially limitless potential of expansion to their culture's diety, however few - if any - take her theory seriously. Remind you of someone?
For the most part, Gog Agog had been treated like a joke by the rest of the demiurges. To them, they are a joke at best and useless at worst. The others find her commitment to entertainment/the bit as a waste of time. Gog Agog has expressed emotions ranging from frustration to resentment to absolute rage about their standing with the other demiurges, which could be justified by the others' treatment alone. However, this page really expands on Gog Agog's motivation and outlook on the current state of the multiverse.
Gog Agog has seen the multiverse be reset over and over and over again, most likely since the beginning. They find this all so boring. The fighting, the power struggles, the multiverse reset? In their words, "been there, done that. Droll! Uninspired!" The revelation that they've lived through so many multiverse resets gives context through their blasé attitude and their desire to become a bigger player, to be appreciated.
All the other demiurges take the power struggles, warfare, and violence so seriously because it's their lives. In their perspectives the Worm Queen is just acting so childish and taking none of this seriously, so why should they treat Gog Agog with any consideration.
But from Gog Agog's perspective, the other demiurges are the ones acting silly. On the newest page, the Worm Queen opines, "They're all characters in the DUMBEST show ever, and they don't even KNOW!" Gog Agog knows all the mistakes they're making, all the stupid decisions, and hates that the others won't let Gog Agog be a major player. Our resident worm jester is stuck out in the audience and doesn't want to be. It's the same show, and the other characters won't let them really do anything.
The perspective that the events of the comic are just an eternally repeating show also gives context to Gog Agog's decision to abandon the fight with Jagganoth when the other demiurges refuse to tell them that they're needed - that they're important. Gog Agog knows that "Big Daddy Z" won't let the world truly be destroyed. The multiverse will be reset and has yet again avoided annihilation. So if the other demiurges won't give them acknowledgment, then why should Gog Agog help them?
We'll probably have to wait until next week to be given the answer, but I have a feeling that the very first demiurge that was in charge was Gog Agog. If my guess is correct, then the other demiurges' treatment of Gog Agog is a bigger insult to injury.
Also, I really enjoyed the highkey "Twin Peaks" Red Room vibes in this page. Anywho, that's all the steam I really had. I just wanted to info dump my thoughts because I don't really have anyone in my real life who I can talk about Kill Six Billion Demons with, lol.
