4 WEEK KOREAN VOCAB CHALLENGE AN ANNIVERSARY EVENT BY KOREANSTUDYNETWORK

February 19th was the day of KSN’s first anniversary! And to celebrate that, we are bringing back our very first challenge. It will be a little different from our first vocab challenge; we have new themes and for each day (click on the pic to see it bigger) you have to look for 10 words: 5 nous and 5 verbs/adjectives. There’s also a challenge option for more advanced learners: make one sentence for each word.

If you make posts here on tumblr, don’t forget to use the tag #koreanstudynetwork so we can see it (and maybe you can bee in our hall of fame after the challenge ends).

We will start it next Monday, on February 24th, and it will end on March 23rd.

When you’re studying a language, it’s very important to learn about the people, the culture and the history of the place that the language comes from. And when it comes to the Korean language, it shouldn’t be any different, so we’re challenging you to learn something.

This time we’re taking up learning some things about Korean history.

This Korean History Challenge will consist of several parts where you can do all of them, a few of them or even one of them, depending on the time you have at your disposal.

Tha challenge starts on November 18th and ends on December 18th. When you make a post on here, don’t forget to tag #koreanstudynetwork so we can see it, reblog it and maybe you’ll also be featured in our hall of fame.

Challenges

King Sejong Challenge ( 세종대왕 ) - as you may know, King Sejong is the one that instituted hangul, so in this challenge you’ll find at least 20 vocabulary words related to history and if you find vocabulary specific for Korean history, even better. As an added bonus, you can research a little bit about the beginnings of Hangul and share them on the same vocabulary post.

Sageuk Challenge ( 사극 ) - if you don’t know, sageuk is a term for Korean historical dramas and movies. In this challenge you’ll watch a historical drama and compare it to what actually happened in that time in Korean history. It’s up to you what kind of comparisons you make, be it about a person in real history and compare them to the drama version or how the drama is more positive/negative compared to real history. This challenge might take more time, but you can also skip watching something and compare to something you’ve already watched.

Hong Gil Dong Challenge ( 홍길동 ) - In this challenge you’ll take a story that was written before the 20th century or that takes place in that time. This challenge has several possible ways you could take it: make a vocabulary list of at least 20 words, write a review of it (in English if you read it in English and in Korean if you read it in Korean) or you can translate an excerpt from Korean to English or vice versa.

Korean History Challenge ( 역사 ) - The final challenge is very simple. It’s imple research about a period, an event or a person from korean history. If you’re going to post about your research, what you put in your post is all up to you.

Since it’s October, we’re having a Halloween Challenge! It will be a multi-level challenge, we’re going to give you guys three challenge options with different difficulty levels. So if you’re a beginner, you can do the first level challenge; and if you already know more Korean, you can try the other levels. That way everyone can participate!

If you want to do only one of the three challenges, that’s okay. If you want to do the three of them, it’s okay too. The important part is to have fun and learn Korean.

The challenge starts today, October 16th, and ends on October 31st. If you’re going to make posts here on Tumblr, don’t forget to tag it with #koreanstudynetwork, so we can see it, and maybe next month you can be in our hall of fame.

Challenges

1. Vocabulary: Make a vocabulary list with Korean words related to Halloween, with a minimum of 20 words and a maximum of how many your heart desires.

2. Translate a song: Choose a Halloween themed song (it can be in English or in your native language) and translate it to Korean. 

3. Review a movie/kdrama: Watch a horror/suspense Korean movie or k-drama and make a little post/review of what you thought about the movie. But here’s the thing: do it in Korean.

3,5. If you don’t know enough of Korean to write a review, or don’t feel confident enough to do it yet, but still want to do the movie/kdrama challenge, then instead of writing a review in Korean, you can make a vocab list of words (verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc) you heard/saw in the movie/kdrama.

KOREAN MUSIC VOCAB CHALLENGE CHALLENGE BY KOREANSTUDYNETWORK

Hello, everyone!! Here we are with another challenge. This one is to encourage learning Korean vocabulary (and maybe a little grammar, you guys decide), but this time using music. Since a lot of people started learning Korean because of music, especially k-pop, I thought it was a nice idea to use that to learn more.

How will this challenge work? I’m going to list a few categories of song and for each category, you will have to pick a song that fits, read the lyrics and learn about the vocabulary on that song. If you wanna focus only on vocab, that’s ok. If you know a little more of Korean and want to focus on grammar you found on the lyrics too, that’s ok as well. It doesn’t have to be only k-pop (in case you’re learning Korean but don’t like k-pop lol), it only has to be a song in Korean.

Do I have to do the challenge every day? Nope. Unlike our last challenge, with this one, you guys are free to decide how you will do it. If you want to do it one song per day, one per week, all songs in one day, that’s up to you.

Hello, everyone! Happy new year! In 2020, we want to do a lot more here on the Korean Study Network, but for that to happen we need your help. We want to make more challenges, more events, and we’re gonna star that celebrating the network’s first anniversary (on February 19).

For the anniversary, we decided to bring back one of the challenges already done here. I made a poll, and you can vote for your favorite, and we’re gonna do it again (with some changes so it won’t be the exactly same challenge) to celebrate our anniversary.

Another thing we want to do this year is monthly challenges (or at least a new challenge or event every two months). And here’s where we need your help. In the same form with the poll I just mentioned, there’s a space for you to give your suggestions about challenges and events we could make. We would love to hear your ideas.

4 WEEK KOREAN VOCAB CHALLENGE CHALLENGE BY KOREANSTUDYNETWORK

Hello, everyone!! Here we are with our first challenge on KSN. This challenge was made to incentivate you guys to study more Korean vocabulary. On the picture we have one theme for each day (and you can click on the pic to see it bigger), and on every day of the challenge you will have to look for 10 words related to the day’s theme. You can study on your own, or you can make posts here on tumblr for us to see, that’s up to you. But the important is to study/learn 10 words every day.

We will start the challenge on April 1st (but if you can’t do it on that day, you can start whenever you want). You don’t have to be a member of the network to take part on the challenge. And if you participate and post the vocab here on tumblr, don’t forget to use the tag #koreanstudynetwork so we can see it and reblog it.

For the members of the network, there’s something else for this challenge, and it includes our class on Quizlet (if you’re not on our quizlet class yet, please send a message on my main blog, @anascoldcoffee, and I’ll send you the link to join).

I will make a list for every day of the challenge, and I wil allow everyone on the class to edit to list, so everyone can put there the words they found (just please see if there’s any words that are already on the list so there’s no repeats) and we can study together. And then we can also play those “games” they have on quizlet, like match and gravity (I think gravity is only available on the website, not on the app), and we can see everyone’s scores and things like that, just for fun.
