“ Kyoudai , ” the elder welcomed as he watched his twin tread ever so slowly down the hall , still in his night clothes. Nobori beat him to the coffee maker this morning , just before Kudari could fill the room with his overly scented sweeteners. Overpowering smells , they were. 

“ Good morning. Or afternoon , rather. ” Sipping the last droplet of coffee from his cup , his gaze met with his look - alike. “ Slept well , I would hope ? ”

He knows exactly how to leave her speechless. Sharp tongue, always nailing in the choose of words that she doesn’t really imagine. By the time they’ve been apart, another man would have simply left her aside and continue with his life. But Emmet... is definitely not the type of person Mel is used to spend time with, either at work or back in university. Maybe that uncertainty of someone being so different is what makes her always go back to him. Sure, it’s Unova the only place she can find him, but the mere idea of traveling for hours seems like a huge change of schedules she hadn’t considered.

She doesn’t seem to mind to mess up her whole life in this moment, though.

❝I could... as much as my job allows me to, sir.❞ replies she with a softened voice, eyes still not too daring to look up and meet his. ❝So far this time-- w-well, you are the only reason I’ve come back, and if you want me to spend... whatever amount of time you need me to, I will.❞

A quick gaze at his face makes her lose the whole discourse she’s built in her mind, finding herself embarrassed for what it could look like a confession. Even in her brain she cannot find an explanation of what kind of power this man has, although the intrigue grows stronger inside and only makes her more willing to sacrifice bits of her life for him.

❝P-perhaps we could, you know. Try something out? There’s no hurry. If you-- If you say “no”, I can leave. If you say “not now”, I can wait... But if you accept, I may be in the obligation to grab your hand and take you away from here, just for a moment.❞

He’d most certainly come here on accident, crumpled map still in hand and a befuddled Pikachu tucked into his shoulder as they tried to find the subway out of the city but this --

He’s enchanted. It’s the only word for it. And as the cars finally came to a halt and a boldly dressed pair exited the chaotically jostling vehicle, Red took absolutely no time to march up to the closest of the two and pull on the sleeve of his jacket.

“This is insane. I love it. What is this.”

It had been awhile since she was last in Nimbasa City. Here visiting her father and making sure he was actually resting and properly taking care of himself Hazel had just begun heading back to the apartment when she spotted a familiar tall person. Without even hesitating she was already waving her arm about trying to grab their attention.

   “Em-meeet!” Holding out the end of their name just a bit she made her way up to them with a beaming a smile. “Heya, it’s been a bit! You working today?”

“...Kudari, is it? Apologies for not returning for so long... I believe our last battle was prior to the Neo-Plasma incident.”

The previous forty-nine battles were far less of a struggle than she’d remembered. The Battle Subway definitely hadn’t given the impression of having lost its edge, either; the challengers Rei had encountered were impressive strategists, for the most part. Some could potentially even hold their own in World League competition.

Rei never would’ve imagined she’d be this far ahead of the curve.

“In case you forgot... my name is Rei Ayanami.” Her Magnezone and Reuniclus each emerged from their balls, staring down the Subway Boss across the car. “I am ready to battle when you are.”

          “ wait ---- “  they cut off the man in the middle of his sentence, as something  FINALLY  dawns upon them, after riding the subway   &  battling for as long as they have so far.  “ that’s why people have been challenging me?  this is a train . . . . . .  that you battle on? “

     The fact that it cost twice as much to get a flying taxi to Wyndon from the Isle of Armor than it did to get a taxi to Wedgehurst then take a train drove Klara up a wall.  If she hadn’t splurged most her money on a new pair of shoes she would be able to avoid the metro and visit her mum with no problem.  If only it were a perfect world.

     Upon walking into the station, she was relieved to see no visible signs of a delay.  No pokemon crowding the rails this time, thank goodness.  But there was something else that caught her eye.

     A man in stark white, fashion that she wasn’t used to seeing around Galar— anywhere really.  It was almost comical, she wasn’t sure whether to stare or laugh.  Seeing as she was usually the one with a strange taste in clothes, Klara kept her mouth shut.

     Actually, the more she stared, the more familiar he seemed.  Something about him, it was on the tip of her tongue, she couldn’t place it.  He was foreign for sure, but where did she know him?  Maybe a magazine, something that had to do with— she glanced at his hat— trains?

     “ Excuse me, sir ! “  Klara piped up, careful to keep her distance and maintain a pleasant expression.  “ If it’s okay with you, can I ask where you’re from ? “
