“Eh, can’t we keep them up a little longer?”Honestly at this point, Setsuna wasn’t entirely sure who it was that was speaking- her boyfriend, or one of the kids. They sure were all looking at her with the same pleading eyes, at any rate.It had been Love’s idea to introduce the damn things to Labyrinth in the first place, and while they were pretty at first, and she had enjoyed them a lot, having them still up pushing into the middle of January was ridiculous! She should have known the Christmas lights would be nothing but trouble.
“No means no.” Setsuna heaved a sigh, putting her hands on her hips. “Even on Earth, they would have removed them all already. You can’t keep them up forever.”“But they’re pretty!” One of the kids chimed. “Mom already took down the ones on our house weeks ago! It’s boring without them!”“Yeah! Dad said we weren’t going to put them up at all, and your house has the best light display!” Another one of the kids quickly added.“See, Setsuna? They all love it!” Westar said, giving her what honestly were bigger puppy dog eyes than the ones on the kids. “We can’t disappoint them, right! You know, children are our future and all that!”“Even so, it’s not the Christmas season anymore. Not anywhere close. We can always put them up again next Christmas.” Setsuna told him, frowning a little. “It’s good that the neighborhood kids enjoy it, but you shouldn’t spoil them so much, Westar. Besides, if we keep the lights out forever, they’ll burn out.”“We can just buy some new ones next year!” Westar grinned.“No.” Setsuna insisted again. “My decision is final. I’ve already put up with them long enough, you’re taking them down today.”“Boo.” He pouted, his shoulders slumping. Finally he heaved a sigh, looking down at the gathered kids, reaching out to pat the two closest ones on the head. “It’s as the lady says. If she insists, I have to take them down. Sorry.”Naturally, there were moans and groans, and the assorted protest here and there. But eventually, Westar managed to send them on their way, promising that they could come over to play some other time.“You sure are popular with the kids.” Setsuna noted, watching the last of them linger a bit, staring at the red and green lights. “Well, you were always a strange, even when we were all working for Lord Moebius. You never really fit in all that well.”“Well, I can’t deny that.” Westar chuckled to himself. “Do you remember where we put the ladder?” He asked her, frowning a little.“I think it’s in the laundry room.” Setsuna told him, looking up at the lights again herself, smiling a little. Red and green glowing orbs adorned their house, which looked entirely out of place compared to the cold, gray architecture that was still most of Labyrinth. It was a slow transition away from Moebius’ control, and even though they weren’t pretty, the buildings of Labyrinth were undeniably well made. Tearing them all down and replacing them probably would have given rise to protests, so they had settled for starting slow- introducing some of the warmer and more personal buildings that they had seen on Earth.Like their home. At first it had just been Setsuna living here. Westar had only moved in a little before Christmas- somehow or other he had managed to set his own apartment on fire, and while most of the units were okay, his was completely damaged by smoke and water alike, leaving him homeless. Naturally in his time of need, she had extended a hand to him, and they had begun living together. After all, they had been dating for a few months before that, so it wasn’t strange of them to do that, right? Love and others said things like that happened all the time on Earth.Well, it was true that living with Westar was a lot more fun than living by herself, no matter how warm and inviting the exterior of her own home was.“Setsuna? You okay?” Westar glanced over towards her, and she leapt back, realizing that she had spaced out enough to let the taller man get very close to her. He was practically nose to nose with her- as usual, he had no sense of personal space!“Ah, it’s nothing.” She shook her head quickly. “I was just thinking that they’re still pretty after all, that’s all.”“So, can we keep them?” Westar asked quickly, practically sparkling.“No.” Setsuna said sharply, giving him a cross look- before it softened into a smile. “But I’m looking forward to having them again, Westar.”“Yeah.” He smiled at her. “Me too.”
