Aside from the gay stuff and the cool animation, I’m really enjoying my side research on Okinawan/Ryukyu culture as a result of stumbling upon SK8 The Infinity

SK8 doesn’t really focus on Okinawa. For the purpose of the show it’s just a place in “Japan” the Ryukyu kingdom was colonized by Japan in the 1800s where people live and it doesn’t snow.

I can’t really say that SK8 is “okinawan representation”

But dang, I’ve been part Okinawan my whole life, and watching this show reminded me about it, and that’s pretty cool.

Even just the fact that the characters have Okinawan last names... Like ok Anime Names are kind of puns and wordplay, but hearing an Okinawan name like Higa (Shadow’s last name) in an anime is kinda cool.

How I say I feel: I'm fine

How I really feel: yo so bakugou thinks that best jeanist was just on hiatus recovering from kamino but now he's missing? And he was like kinda excited to show how much he's grown, like he chose his hero name but won't tell anyone what it is until he tells a certain person first. the person he wants to reveal his hero name to must be best jeanist because of the flashbacks we got a while ago, and he has improved and started addressing his own flaws. And I just worry about the potential for him to go through another painful episode where he loses another hero role model in the same year

Started reading Blue Flag by Kaito and holy crap I love it.

It’s currently being released in the US by Viz, and because I pay a whole $2/month to feed my crippling bnha addiction, I can read the first 12 chapters on the app, but I’m seriously considering buying paper copies just so I can have them.

This is a fun observation that fellow weeaboos like me have picked up on over the years: In Japanese, I’ve seen a lot of things get shortened into 4 character abbreviations.

Examples:

Tiger & Bunny -> タイバニ TaiBani

Pocket Monsters -> ポケモン Pokemon (not super helpful, I admit)

Super Smash Bros -> スマブラ SumaBura (you’ll probably just find e-sports and shitposts)

Blue Exorcist -> 青エク AoEku (technically three characters, I guess)

My Hero Academia -> ヒロアカ HiroAca

Just another possible search term you can use in your quest for content.

I don’t know if all of them have an abbreviation like this, especially if the name is short already, but hopefully this helps someone :)
