The Kayi Tribe (Kayı boyu/Kayi Obasi) is considered to be one of the 24 Oghuz Turkic Tribes that descend from the legendary & almost mythical Turkic figure Oghuz Khan/Oghuz Khagan.
The Kayis were said to have been one of the first Turkic tribes to migrate west, leaving the Steppes of Central Asia for Anatolia/modern-day Turkey due to the Mongol invasions.
The name “Kayi” is said to be still present in the names of tribal structures of modern Turkic peoples with around a total of twenty-seven (27) villages today bearing the name “kayi” in Anatolia itself.
The two symbols pictured below represent the two possible Tamghas/Seals of the Kayi Tribe.
The first Tamgha pictured is the one popularised in Diriliş Ertuğrul and is based on accounts found within the Selçukname (accounts of Seljuk history), and is said to mean "able and mighty".
The second Tamgha pictured is the one postulated by the 11th century scholar and lexicographer: Mahmud al-Kasghari (Mahmud of Kasghar, East Turkestan or modern-day Xinjiang, China) and is said to represent the bow and arrow.
With the rise in popularity of Ertugrul Bey and the Kayi Tribe, I attempt in this article to provide some historical information around the

Özge Törer as Rabi'a Bala Hatun (Kurulus: Osman)
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ertuğrul’s life, one thing that is known with certainty was that he was a historical figure and he was indeed the father of Osman Bey.
For instance, the famous Anatolian scholar and future father-in-law of Ertuğrul’s son Osman, Shaykh Edebali, was said to have met with Ertuğrul Gazi on a number of occasions.
But the most conclusive evidence for Ertuğrul's existence comes in the forms of coins.
One such coin reads "Osman bin Ertuğrul bin Gündüz Alp" or "Günduz Alp oğlu Ertuğrul oğlu Osman", which essentially translates as "Osman, son of Ertuğrul, son of Günduz Alp".
Not only does this cement the idea of Osman’s relationship to Ertuğrul but also simultaneously gives more credence to the theory that Ertugrul’s father was actually called Gazi Gündüz Alp rather than as popularly presented as Süleyman Şah (Suleyman Shah).
This also means that it is highly likely that Ertuğrul's son Günduz was actually named after his grandfather Gazi Günduz Alp.
The Ottoman dynasty was founded by Ertugrul’s son, Osman I (Osman Gazi) in 1298/1299 AD, but Ertugrul’s work and the efforts he made formed
