A truly wild kushiage (串揚げ / fried skewer) combination: young bamboo shoots, breaded and fried, with cheese! This shop uses olive oil for all their deep-frying, which is very unusual for Japanese food. Also I didn’t know you even could deep-fry with olive oil! (Isn’t the smoke point too low?) In any case, I do think the olive oil flavor is what tied this together, even if it did make the breading heavier than normal kushiage.
