Frances set her sandwich down and layed on her back, her head on the blanket and her bare feet on the grass. She stretched out her arms behind her. “This is nice, isn’t it?”

I nodded, smiling. “Yeah. It is.” I took another bite of my sandwich, and it was quiet for a moment. “Kutcher, when we let you pick the adventure, I didn’t expect you to pick something like this.”

She shrugged. She smiled too, but only slightly. “No?”

I shook my head. “No. I thought we were going to like, rob a CVS or something. Or maybe do parkour at midnight.”

“This is still fun, though, isn’t it?”

“Oh for sure, we should do this more often.” 

And if I had been paying attention, I would’ve seen her hesitate before replying, but of course, I hadn’t been. “Oh, definitely.”
