Not My Ariel?

As much as I love the recent surge of black representation in the media, as much as I love to see black actors attaining these critical and possibly award-winning roles, a part of me still feels like them casting Halle as Ariel in The Little Mermaid live action movie, is just ploy for them to make more money.

Black Panther was the highest grossing Marvel standalone film at the box office to date. And that had to be one of the biggest checks Disney Studios has ever seen and only because we show up and show out for ours.

I feel like we are failing to realise that part of the reason Ariel is black is because they want to make more money at the box office. And I don't know how on board I am, simply because of that opinion.

I'm not saying I won't or don't support but I am saying I am skeptical.

And honestly watching all of these young rappers die is only turning me into a conspiracy theorist. That docu film on Dr. Sebi sparked a lot of conversation, and you said it first. "I told my brothers if they kill me, just ride for me."

10 is obviously way too young? Is that a question? 10 year olds can’t decide if they want to be super man or spider man when they grow up, they have no sense of reality. If 10 year olds can choose sexuality and gender why can’t they be allowed to be part of the age of consent if they are old enough to make decisions about their bodies, they are trying to normalize pedophilia slowly 🤷🏽‍♀️

Firstly, let me just say I made a typo in that post Zaya is actually 12 but I don't think that takes away from anything you have said. I definitely understand what you're saying. Be it 10 or 12 that isn't the age to make any live changing decisions.

However, I strongly disagree with the ideas you put forward about sexuality and pedophilia. That is not what this is!

Gender and sexuality at completely different. Both are a form of identity, however, Sexuality is a form interpersonal identity whereas Gender is an intrapersonal form of identity. Gender is about self and is therefore very critical to early development.

I think it is safe for a 10 or 12 year old to identify as another gender because I think those feelings come about by wanting to safely explore or experience the actions or behaviour associated with that gender roles. In other words, as a child you are innocent and ignorant of the idea of a boy or a girl, but let's say you find that things like playing with dolls or wearing dresses and skirts very much appeal to you, and someone says "those are things girls do". You will associate those things with being a girl and because your likes and dislikes are character-defining you will associate you character with that of a girl's. Of course that example was overly simplified but its gives the idea...

But like I said, I think 12 is too young for any life changing decisions like gender-corrective surgery or gender-suppressing hormones. However, its never too early to respect someone's feelings or thei pronouns!

What shook me more than the actual event, as the ignorance displayed in the comments. One in particular absolutely offput me when I read that someone had said, “her father shouldn’t have put her in that position in the first place🤷🏾‍♀️”.

HOW DOES THAT JUSTIFY ANY OF THIS?!

To say I’m triggered is an understatement. This is a complete violation of someone’s privacy and dare I say a breach of human rights.

THIS IS A CHILD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

And then for someone to say something so senseless, proves there needs to conversation about these topics and safe and educated spaces to accommodate it. There needs to be measures in place for thoroughly disbar injustices like this, and protection for women, children, and our men, in VERY community under the law. Things like this shouldn’t even have happen, further more go unpunished, overlooked, or resolved, by some namely director saying, “Well, that’s not how we typically do things...”

That should never be enough.

*And I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t go to jail or prison for committing a crime. You go to jail or prison if you are CONVICTED of committing a crime. Killing is completely legal until murder is the charge.

People say all the time that a man should NEVER put his hands on a woman. However, when a woman hits a man everybody says less. Is that not double standard?

Controversial Questions

Why does nobody ever address the way that Christianity is consistently used to justify evils such as mass killing and genocides, murder and martyr, enslavement, imprisonment, capital punishment, bias laws, patriarchy, female oppression, heterosexism, and racism? Or maybe I shouldn't isolate Christianity, is this a fault of human interpretation of religion in general?
