I'm seeing so much on social media and honestly it's a lot to take in. Please be very carefully especially if you think you have contracted COVID-19. There and many common over-the-counter meds that make it worst!

So please go to your local treatment centers and do individual research on credible sites like the following.

Try your best to follow the news locally and internationally but let's s start a thread to keep each other informed about what we already know about this COVID-19 pandemic and any new developments.

Currently in many European countries and the US, the militia is being deployed to enforce quarantines and national shutdowns due to residents not taking these precautions seriously. Many are speculating that these shutdowns and isolation periods may not be as temporary are we think and it may take several months to get the COVID-19 outbreak under wraps before it is completely safe for us to return to our normal lives.

Also, I've also seen posts about governments "slowing" down the internet in order to reduce online traffic. Mainly due to the fact that billions of people are constantly online now that we are in isolation due to national shutdowns. This could be concerning seeing as for many of us the main source of immediate updates about the situation at hand is through the internet.

Dwyane Wade's and Gabrielle Union's announce that their 10 year old daughter Zaya is male-to-female transgender.

I haven't followed this story consistently but for what I've seen currently, many people are concerned about the age of transitioning.

Is 12 years old not old enough to know better?

Or is the black community less receptive towards and accepting of the LGBTG+ community?

Any thoughts?

It's old enough, periodt. Transphobes want to make excuses and try reaching so hard, they use her age as an excuse but in reality they don't support the transition just in general. Even if she waits a little longer, she's gonna get a ton of backlash because the black community thinks it's so necessary to put down and talk over people that are any type of genuinely positive black representation or lgbtq at all. Stupid bullshit that I see on the internet by older black men like "lgbtq is something that made by white people, stop trying to be like them" but actually there's always been lgbtq of every race already and we not even gonna go on about how these things were accepted until Europeans standards changed that and edited the Bible, Christians don't think their Bibles were once changed by white pagans 😂

Anyway, support your trans kids and believe them. Transphobes are using age and religion as a reason to talk shit on a 12-year-old, these are adults talking about someone's child and don't feel bad about it. Most of the criticism is not only our community trying to impress the yt people with bullying each other in the black community that are different from each other but most of the most hatedul shit I read are ofc by black men.

Dwayne and Gabrielle being accepting parents is raising your kids the real right way, don't let anyone say it can't be the right way because "it's not what they're used to, God made -" these people don't even mention God anytime tf else, some of you "adults" are really hateful 🙄🙄

10 is obviously way too young? Is that a question? 10 year olds can’t decide if they want to be super man or spider man when they grow up, they have no sense of reality. If 10 year olds can choose sexuality and gender why can’t they be allowed to be part of the age of consent if they are old enough to make decisions about their bodies, they are trying to normalize pedophilia slowly 🤷🏽‍♀️

Firstly, let me just say I made a typo in that post Zaya is actually 12 but I don't think that takes away from anything you have said. I definitely understand what you're saying. Be it 10 or 12 that isn't the age to make any live changing decisions.

However, I strongly disagree with the ideas you put forward about sexuality and pedophilia. That is not what this is!

Gender and sexuality at completely different. Both are a form of identity, however, Sexuality is a form interpersonal identity whereas Gender is an intrapersonal form of identity. Gender is about self and is therefore very critical to early development.

I think it is safe for a 10 or 12 year old to identify as another gender because I think those feelings come about by wanting to safely explore or experience the actions or behaviour associated with that gender roles. In other words, as a child you are innocent and ignorant of the idea of a boy or a girl, but let's say you find that things like playing with dolls or wearing dresses and skirts very much appeal to you, and someone says "those are things girls do". You will associate those things with being a girl and because your likes and dislikes are character-defining you will associate you character with that of a girl's. Of course that example was overly simplified but its gives the idea...

But like I said, I think 12 is too young for any life changing decisions like gender-corrective surgery or gender-suppressing hormones. However, its never too early to respect someone's feelings or thei pronouns!

Saw this post on the Shaderoom and I had to screenshot!

What shook me more than the actual event, as the ignorance displayed in the comments. One in particular absolutely offput me when I read that someone had said, “her father shouldn’t have put her in that position in the first place🤷🏾‍♀️”.

HOW DOES THAT JUSTIFY ANY OF THIS?!

To say I’m triggered is an understatement. This is a complete violation of someone’s privacy and dare I say a breach of human rights.

THIS IS A CHILD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

And then for someone to say something so senseless, proves there needs to conversation about these topics and safe and educated spaces to accommodate it. There needs to be measures in place for thoroughly disbar injustices like this, and protection for women, children, and our men, in VERY community under the law. Things like this shouldn’t even have happen, further more go unpunished, overlooked, or resolved, by some namely director saying, “Well, that’s not how we typically do things...”

That should never be enough.

*And I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t go to jail or prison for committing a crime. You go to jail or prison if you are CONVICTED of committing a crime. Killing is completely legal until murder is the charge.
