The Wailing (South Korea, 2016)

This is, by far, one of the best things that ever came out from South Korea. A film so complex and chilling, I would not even know where to start describing. I tried to watch and read up some material about how to interpret some of the events, and it's really fascinating how many different interpretations to the plot there are.

It all starts with a bizarre murder case, and as the plot evolves, more and more people in a quiet town become victims, killed by the hands of people they love. When the daughter of the policeman seemingly becomes posessed, he is even more desperate to find out if a mysterious Japanese man living in the mountains has something to do with the crimes.

韓国諜報機関KCIAの部長による大統領暗殺事件を題材にした映画🇰🇷

硬派なポリティカル・サスペンスにゴッドファーザーと日本の昼ドラのドロドロ感を混ぜ込んだような展開が👍👍

見方によっては愛する人の心が自分から離れて行くことを許せず殺害に至る悲恋劇にも見える😅

ささやかな演出もきめ細やかだと感じました🌟

酒を割って混ぜることを主人公のキャラクターに重ね、最後の宴席での酒の飲み方で変化を見せるという演出は巧み👌

最後に靴を履かずに逃げていたことに気づくという顛末を、同じ立場で働いた者同士の最後を対比させるように用いる演出には痺れました😧

役者陣良いです😉

主人公を演じるイ・ビョンホンが素晴らしいです‼️かっちりしたエリート官僚的な見た目も案外はまってますし、大袈裟にならずでもしっかり表情や佇まいで見るものに心情を訴える演技力🌟

韓国映画界の名バイプレイヤー、クァク・ドウォンとイ・ソンミンの存在感も👌
