It’s been a tremendous week for pitching and we still have the weekend games for more accomplishments. Here’s the line so far:
- CC Sabathia becomes the 17th pitcher to strikeout 3000 batters
- Noah Syndergaard becomes the seventh pitcher to throw a 1-0 complete game shutout and scored the only run on a homer.
-Stephen Strasberg becomes the fastest pitcher (innings pitched) to reach 1,500 strikeouts
- Kyle Hendricks throws a “Maddux” a complete game 4-0 shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals requiring ONLY 81 pitches. Named after Hall of Famer Greg Maddux who for his career threw 13 complete game shutouts with less than 100 pitches thrown. No other pitcher has more than seven of those kind of starts.
Let’s see what the weekend has in store for us Baseball fans.
Kyle Hendricks Hangs Up His Cleats: Express Stream to Retirement Powered by QuickTV ⚾️
Kyle Hendricks, the beloved former Chicago Cubs ace and a central figure in their historic 2016 World Series triumph, has reportedly decided to retire, capping a distinguished 12-year major league career.1 The news, which broke on Monday, marks the end of a memorable run for the veteran right-hander.
The End of a Stellar Journey 🛣️
The 35-year-old spent his first 11 seasons endearing himself to fans in Chicago before joining his hometown Los Angeles Angels for his final 2025 campaign. Even in his last year, Hendricks demonstrated durability and skill, starting 31 games. He finished the season with an 8-10 record and a 4.76 ERA, accumulating 114 strikeouts against 43 walks across $164 \frac{2}{3}$ innings. His career statistics stand as a testament to his longevity and consistency: a 105-91 record with a 3.79 ERA over 307 games (301 starts).
Forever a Cub Legend in Chicago 🐻
When fans reflect on Kyle Hendricks, the 2016 season will be the Express Stream highlight of his career. That year, he truly cemented his place in Cubs lore, posting a remarkable 16-8 record and leading the entire National League with an exceptional 2.13 ERA over 31 appearances. This dominant performance earned him a third-place finish in the NL Cy Young Award voting. His postseason heroics are just as memorable. He maintained a stellar 1.42 ERA in the 2016 playoffs, a stretch that included a masterful $7 \frac{1}{3}$ shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series, a victory that propelled the Cubs into the World Series. During the dramatic Fall Classic, he recorded a 1.00 ERA over two starts as Chicago finally overcame Cleveland.
From Dartmouth to Anaheim 🌅
Hendricks' journey began far from the big leagues. After growing up in Orange County, California, he pitched collegiately for Dartmouth.2 The Texas Rangers selected him in the eighth round of the 2011 draft.3 Just a year later, he was traded to the Angels in the deal that sent veteran right-hander Ryan Dempster to Texas—a trade the Cubs organization certainly won. His final contract saw him return home, signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Angels last November. His ability to consistently perform at a high level made his games must-see TV, like enjoying Seamless Streaming of classic sports moments. The game will certainly miss "The Professor's" deliberate style and pinpoint command. Watching his final season felt like a reliable Express Stream of quality pitching, a fitting final act for a true professional.
