okay yes very interested in the Kyoji/Sou AU
ty anon!!! kyoji/sou au as referenced in this post.
So, it all started while I was doing the Suzu route, and I noticed that Sou kept being paired up with Kyoji in scenes. And they had a dynamic where Sou was like, the only one who Kyoji would actually listen to...? I only ended up with one screenshot of this dynamic, because at the time I didn't realize it was about to take over my brain:
But it was very charming to me. Kyoji also gets to have one of his sweetest moments (IMO) in the Suzu route - whenever Suzu twists his ankle again and everybody is worried he won't be able to perform, Kyoji basically says "ugh I WISH your ankle would make you unable to perform forever because then I'd have less competition, but I KNOW you're going to make it through 🙄🙄 So let's continue on we'll be fine." very tsundere
So, it got me thinking... here's my pitch. We're post-Suzu route. Suzu and Kisa are now dating, and while Sou wants to support his friends... he's also reeling from the fact his childhood crush is dating somebody else. So out of respect for this complicated emotions, he starts hanging out more with Kyoji. Their weird dynamic continues to grow, and they start to find common ground. Never feeling like they're doing enough/being appreciated enough, having an insane devoted love for theater.
(also, I couldn't figure out where else to put this: but since Sou is now the scriptwriter, he ends up giving Kyoji more psychologically interesting villain roles.)
Through Sou, Kyoji ends up joining the 1st year friend group - Suzu and Kisa are able to forgive past quarrels pretty easily. And now all 4 of them are buddies. Somewhere along the way, Kyoji ends up discovering/being told about Kisa's gender deal and the fact she's dating Suzu.
And she and Suzu are doing great! They're super in love! Except... they can't go public... she asked the principal if it'd be okay, but he said he was too worried about that exposing her gender identity. There are no other students who are dating... people might ask too many questions, y'know? Now, if there was ANOTHER gay couple at Univeil, then perhaps they could...
And Sou, who has gotten over his feelings for Kisa at this point, hears about this. And he really wants to be a good friend. It's been causing Suzu and Kisa a lot of angst having to hide this relationship, and the tension has been impacting their performance.
So honestly. It just makes sense. For the good of all Quartz, he and Kyoji HAVE to pretend to date. It's a completely logical course of action.
(Hijinks ensue.)
