Laurel Canyon Country Store, 2108 Laurel Canyon Blvd, Los Angeles (Hollywood Hills West), CA 90046
A part of LA history, the humble Laurel Canyon Country Store was immortalized by the Doors’ song Love Street (Jim Morrison lived nearby). Many rock stars lived in the area (Hollywood Hills)…Bowie would buy his British candy bars from this market. It looks old and is not that different from other convenience stores except for a better selection of European chocolates, sodas (including regional brands), the deli (with salads and sandwiches) and the coffee cart out front. Stephen Tyler must be a regular since his pictures are all over the store.
There’s a pretty big wine section, fresh produce, and other groceries – lots of snacks, cereal, condiments, frozen food, ice cream, bread, cleaning supplies, etc. They had some imported British beans, cookies, and condiments.
The coffee cart is super popular and so is the outdoor patio. That poor woman who runs the cart by herself, but she’s been doing it for decades…You can get lattes, drip coffee, and teas, plus croissants. They serve organic coffee. It’s pretty decent coffee. No foam art or anything fancy though.
The signs have a hippie summer of love feel. It’s in a residential area and is well known, so the parking lot might be full and it could be hard to find a place to park. They have regulars and the owner seems to be there a lot. I think they have their own wine?
