Morning commute on the 405 in LA, December 6, 2017
Inspired by the recent California wildfires and the fact that, you know, this is just going to get worse.
Stickers, shirts, notebooks to journal the end of days, all available here.
If you like my art and think Patreon is whack, I love small coffee tips.
Every time I think I might be turning into some crazed Right-wing conspiracy theorist, I go into work where my coworker will shove a clip from FOX News in my face where some California official or w/e is "admitting they started the fires".
Like don't get me wrong, I don't remember the exact verbiage used but when I heard it I could definitely see how one could think he's admitting to starting the fires, but I feel like if you put even just a few more seconds of thought into it, you'd probably just assume that instead of saying "since we started the fires" what he meant was "since we started having to deal with the fires".
I mean shit, anything is possible I guess. Maybe the California government did start the fires, I don't know. All I'm saying is, as someone who lives in Oregon and who is personally unaffected by them (for now until the skies are plagued with smoke again which I'm sure will happen, unless LA is too far south in which case yay and never mind lol), this isn't a hill I'm gonna choose to die on.
I already know California's government is fucked, I really don't need to add "started wildfires that razed several million in homes and businesses and killed several people" to the list. It's not really gonna move the needle, you know what I'm saying?

When thinking about natural disasters, it’s important to consider that the scope of their destruction depends on whether they strike a wilderness area or a human population center. Bearing this in mind, consider the population growth of Los Angeles between 1850 and 2020. Now consider that 170 years is a blink of geologic time. Bearing this in mind, I believe it logically follows that it was just a matter of time before the sprawling human development of Los Angeles County got struck with a major fire that would consume entire neighborhoods. In 2005 I researched a true story that happened … Continue reading →
