Keith and Lance argue. No surprise, they do it often. But Keith has just discovered that he is half Galra, and he is already nervous and does not know what his place in the team is. Lance just found himself in the middle. But this leads Keith to unload all his anger on him.
"You think you're so special, when you haven't even managed to become a fighter pilot! You are mediocre, only capable of flirting with every pretty face, without even the shred of intelligence to understand that no one would waste time with you! Hunk must have the patience of a saint to deal with you every day, and it wouldn't surprise me if one day he dropped everything because he was tired of your bullshit! I certainly would!"
The relief is short-lived. Keith realizes that he has crossed the line when he notices Lance's expression and knows he has to apologize, he knows. But he chooses not to: they are being attacked and everyone has to fight. It's just an excuse, and everyone knows it.
During the battle, Keith makes a mistake, and he is about to be killed. Lance, however, shields him with his body, receiving the blow intended for the other.
His condition is critical, but Allura manages to save him.
The problem, however, is that when he wakes up, Lance doesn't remember anything about any of them, and his character is also different, calmer, less noisy.
And he treats everyone differently, coldly. Faced with this new Lance, Keith realizes how many things he took for granted and feels guilty for how he treated Lance.
Above all, he realizes with discomfort that he has feelings for the other, feelings that he does not know if they will ever be reciprocated. Or if he deserves to be.
So... I had a lot of feelings after I found out Lance has felt a void ever since Keith left.... I’m still learning how to do digital art but I felt this needed to be drawn.
Only putting this under keep reading cus honestly I have no idea how long and messy this will be (imma bullet point this one)
Just as a sort of “disclaimer” I’m making this in the au of Altean!Lance and Galra!Keith with (of course) Prince Lance as Allura’s younger brother (as much as I actually don’t like this idea of Lance being Allura’s brother) and Keith the all faithful and loyal guard of aforementioned prince.
it’s been a while since Lance has realized his bisexuality but it’s only been recently he’s recognized his actual feelings for Keith (which is weird because not only is Keith Galra but he’s also his guard and should anyone find out all hell will break loose)
the day begins with him waking up (duh) with a bad feeling in his gut but that bad feeling is soon replaced with that of a good one (more like ecstatic) after he remembers today is Allura’s coronation day! (try to think of the beginning of Frozen when Anna is woken up for Elsa’s coronation except it’s Keith that’s waking Lance up…and don’t ask about King Alfor and his wife cus I obviously haven’t thought that through but just assume they’re gone and Altea is in war with Galra [which is why it would be so scandalous if news that Lance loves likes Keith went around] thx)
after fully dressing himself in the outfit he remembers Keith setting up for him the night before he opens the door to his room vigorously, revealing a surprised Keith whose hand looked to be in the motion of knocking
Keith lowers his hand and straightens himself up, obviously hiding his smile from seeing such an excited Lance because no matter how many times he sees it, Lance’s bright smile was just so bright and beautiful, it was like looking at an angel
He goes over etiquette and what he is to do during the coronation (which evidently is just stand and look pretty, something Lance is confident he can do even in his sleep) and after all the necessities are done he finally allows Lance some free time before the actual coronation, fully expecting him to go out into the gardens and sit by the fountains or something but Lance instead spends his time with Keith, claiming he’s bored of the same blue flowers he sees every day
this, of course, catches Keith by surprise but he doesn’t question it after all, it’s not like the blue flowers were the things Lance went to go see whenever he missed his dead mother, which was basically every tick of every quintent
during the actual coronation nothing much happens besides the few dirty looks Keith receives from the other Altean royals solely for the fact that he’s Galra
it’s during the ball following the coronation that all hell breaks loose (quite literally) as Prince Lotor proceeds to Koolaid smash his way into the castle with his ship made of that gnarly reality ripping comet and surprise~! bet you didn’t see me coming
so yeah, surprise attack
everyone is fleeing, hide yo wife hide yo kids fight or flight! mostly flight while the Altean soldiers (along with the few Galra guards…including Keith) step up to fight against Lotor and his generals because let’s face it they’re so damn good at close combat it’s almost a 10 to 1 ratio fight
Lance, being the prince, of course is being led (or is tried to be led) to safety by the other (lesser) royals but seeing Keith in danger worries him and god damn it Keith shouldn’t be looking so hot while his life is in danger but hot damn look at that fine galra gO and it takes all his willpower not to shout out “THAT’S MY GUARD RIGHT THERE”
I got off track, sorry, so Lance is being pulled but he remains where he is because he doesn’t want to leave Keith alone because oh no that bad feeling in his gut he had this morning it’s back and looking at Keith fighting Lotor 1 on 1 just hurts so much because yes, Keith is a hell of an amazing fighter but with Lotor’s advanced weapons there’s no doubt that Keith stands no chance
while Lance is admiring Keith he fails to notice a falling Altean soldier just right on top of him and they just topple, the tip of the soldier’s spear slightly piercing into Lance from the awkward position he fell and oh god it hurts so much so of course he screams out in pain
of course this causes Keith to look
of course this gives Lotor an opening
of course this makes the smug grin on Lotor’s face grow uglier and bigger as he takes this chance and pushes the entirety of his blade into Keith’s body until it comes out of the other side of Keith’s body
of course this makes Lance scream yet again in horror
of course, instead of being a nice person Lotor pulls the blade right out causing blood to pool and oh god there’s so much blood so Lance pushes the probably dead Altean soldier off of him and runs-or tries to run-to Keith only to fall because quiznak he forgot he’d just been stabbed by a damn spear and he also forgot to check where exactly he’d been stabbed and he checks to see his own blood just flowing out nonchalantly of his right shin
so he crawls
he crawls over to Keith’s body that he knows is quickly dying because oh god there’s so much blood now it could fit a small pool and once he’s reached his favorite guard he cradles his head in his arms, crying and whispering sweet nothings into his ear << his attempts in trying to ease Keith’s pain but really, he knows it’s not helping so he ends up crying out for help, to please, please just stop this war and help me, help me please!
but of course no one is there to hear him because everyone’s either fighting, fleeing, or dead (Lotor is long gone because he knows Lance pretty much serves no use in the kingdom as the second child so there’s not real point in targetting him, meanwhile Keith was just a nuisance he was more than happy to get rid of)
so Lance just cries and cries, unable to help neither himself nor the love of his life
eventually Lance passes out from exhaustion and blood loss (honestly I don’t think it’s reasonable at all for Lance to die from blood loss from a gash on his leg I mean, let’s be real y’all)
and of course, Lance wakes up to the sounds of soft knocking and an all too familiar, yet muffled voice on the other side of the door reminding him “Prince, today is your sister’s coronation day”

You dont understand how much i need an episode where Allura and Lance are left alone, Allura is annoyed at first at Lance´s constant flirting and bad puns, but as the episode continues, Allura realizes how homesick and ‘7th wheel’ complex Lance has , and she just becomes super patient with him and sometimes she joins him in his bad jokes just to make him feel more comfortable in the team,
