in our school lab there’s this mini blood cell counting device and while it processes your probes a small plant grows, which is cute.
however as soon as the plant grows into a tree, the loading bar disappears and is replaced with an ominous „soon“ so i’m reminded of mankind’s hubris and the unavoidable downfall of humanity
Lab School of Washington
The Lab School of Washington in Washington, D.C. is looking for an intern for this summer. This is a school for elementary through high school age children with learning disabilities and other special needs. The school is unique in their philosophy especially for subjects like science and social studies that are combined into a "Club" period with a central theme. One such example is a dinosaur themed club period where students conduct investigations and learn about the history of the dinosaurs through art projects and other highly interactive activities. The camp is a lot like a summer school program in the mornings and after school activities in the afternoon (e.g. swimming, games, art, drama, etc.). Group leaders are in charge of a classroom (along with co-teachers) and assist in more individualized activities. For more information, check out:

What are you even supposed to do when you're waiting in a hallway for a teacher to show up and unlock the classroom? Do you smile at the people who walk by or just pretend that you don't see anyone and gaze into space blankly? What is the social norm for seeing people who you don't know at school but you're like alone in a hallway with them? Is it the same rule for both teachers and students? Do you say hello to upperclassmen who you have classes with? Is waving acceptable? Awkward hallway situations, being a not fun person to hang out with, and homework are my primary school stresses lol.
5 more days 'till graduation day.
It's funny how your last year, compared to your first 3 years in your school, could change the way you saw it once.
It doesn't give me that feeling anymore..
Nevertheless, I still am thankful and grateful for the memories, experiences, lessons and love. So long and goodbye, LS. Thank you. ☺
Liese Ricketts Chicago Photographer Kidnapped in Peru
Liese Ricketts
I was kidnapped, beaten, and robbed with a friend on Tuesday in Arequipa, Peru. A frightening experience which lasted almost three hours but I am much better and have regained my sense of humor. I am also home in the US. I feel very lucky to be alive, and that my girlfriend who was with me is fine, too. I am writing this because I think travelers should know that the situation for people in Peru is precarious in terms of security. It has become a way of life there, to survive brutal attacks. It is a beautiful county with many wonderful people and I will go back next year, just taking many more needed precautions. On an interesting note, the only person I could reach thru FB messaging the next morning was my wonderful FB friend Sylvia de Swaan who called my husband and the American Embassy in Lima. (Yay, FB friends!)
