Catskill Animal Sanctuary Internship

We’re looking for passionate, dedicated and talented people to intern in the areas of animal care, business operations, outreach, communications, hospitality, and our summer camp program. Internships at CAS offer the unique opportunity of working at one of the country’s leading farm animal sanctuaries, and provide valuable experience for those pursuing careers in the animal protection arena.
Internships are unpaid positions and students may receive credit with their academic institutions. Candidates should be opposed to animal cruelty in all forms and support the overall mission of CAS. Vegans and vegetarians are strongly encouraged to apply. Shared housing is available for those who are accepted for a full time internship.

Animal Care Intern
The Animal Care intern will have a hands-on learning experience working with our Animal Care Coordinator. This learning experience will include routine health checks, hoof/nail care, wound care, worming protocols, and other animal care opportunities depending on the needs of our residents.
Be a current student in a vet tech, pre-vet, equine care, or related program
Be comfortable working closely with large animals
Be available 12-18 hours per week on a Sunday-Thursday schedule
Business Office Intern
The Business Office intern will learn standard non-profit administration practices, database segmentation, and gain some knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and donor cultivation.
Be a current student in business, non-profit administration, or a related field
Have a strong interest in the nonprofit sector
Be proficient in Word and Excel
Have some database experience – the more the better!
Be available for 4-12 hours per week for one semester on a M/Th/F schedule
Camp Intern
Camp Kindness, a program of CAS, seeks to engage young people in an innovative, vibrant program designed to foster compassion and respect for all living beings and the environment. This dynamic program spans six weeks of summer running from early July through mid-August and takes place on Sanctuary grounds in Saugerties, New York. The intern will work directly with the Humane Educator and other staff to support all aspects of the camp curriculum and daily schedule so as to ensure a smooth flowing
program that is exciting, life-changing, joyous and varied. Responsibilities will include:
Administrative tasks such as maintaining camper files, making photocopies, purchasing supplies and other tasks as needed
Assist with the delivery of the curriculum and all daily activities
Oversee the well being of campers and communicate with other staff about camp related matters as needed
Preparing, organizing, and setting up camp room for opening and closing of camp as well as daily activities during camp sessions
Be a college student, graduate student or professional with some experience working with youth
Enjoy working outside and be comfortable around our rescued residents
Have access to a vehicle for transportation to and from CAS
Be able to work collaboratively and positively with other staff
Be available for 30 hours per week for two months from June – August
Communications Department Intern
CAS is seeking an intern to help with communications and fundraising projects.
Assisting with design of newsletters, press releases, fundraising letters and advertisements
Design and updating of webpages
On-site photography and video shooting as well as photo and video editing
Have or be working toward a degree in Communications or similar field
Have some knowledge of graphic design and/or video editing software
Be available at least 10 hours a week for a minimum of 12 weeks; start date negotiable
Hospitality Intern
CAS is looking for an intern to aid in the guest management and daily operations of The Homestead, a lovingly restored 200 year old farmhouse on a hill overlooking 80 acres of farmland. This is a unique position for a candidate with a strong interest in the hospitality field. Hours will vary from 10 to 12 per week, and there will be some weekend hours required.
Guest services such as: confirming reservations and greeting guests upon arrival
Upkeep of outside areas (porches, walkways, etc.) and light gardening
Online marketing such as guest emails and surveys, posting events to online calendars, travel websites and blogs
NYC Outreach Intern
CAS is seeking a New York City-based intern to help with outreach projects.
Development of marketing materials used in CAS outreach efforts
Outreach efforts (tabling, special events, conferences, etc.)
Assisting with creating/editing video and photography projects
Have substantive knowledge about factory farming/agribusiness and its impact on animals, people, and the planet
Have superb research, writing, and communication skills
Be available at least 10 hours a week for a minimum of 12 weeks; start date negotiable
