1. Troyes Catherdral 2. Abbaye Trois Fontaines Oh is it really Sunday again? What a fun packed week I have had! It all started with my trip to the Chateau at Cirey-sur-Blaise which was where Voltaire lived for 15 years. What a wonderful place it was too. Only drawback for me was too much standing which meant that by the end of the visit I was desperately in need of a wheelchair! My friends and I had a few good laughs along the way, especially when we saw the length of Mme de Chatelet’s bed, it would have been no use at all to either of my son’s (they stand at 6’4” and 6’8”) as it was just so small. I was so taken with the place that I actually bought a book, written in French, all about the chateau and I am looking forward to reading it (well attempting to read it). Monday was going to be a day of rest……….well it ended with me cooking plain scones and raspberry buns as my friend Anie was coming to take up the hem on the dress I have been making. When she arrived she accepted tea but did not want any scones or buns. It was straight into the freezer for them otherwise they would all have ended up in my tummy. With all the hoo-ha relating to B****T and the flipping exchange rate falling like a stone, it makes it extra hard trying to pick a good time to move money over. However, I seemed to hit a “high” spot and managed to move the money to pay the plumber. I also cut the lawn (well weeds) for the first time since returning from England. Obviously we have had some rain now so the “lawn” was greening up and I noticed that some of the grass seed I had put down earlier in the year had in fact taken hold and was growing. However, that growth is very patchy. I have noticed that the cut (and the rain) seems to have done it a world of good and the lawnmower will need to be out again very soon. I headed to Monique and Jean-Claude’s home on Wednesday for lunch and then we went to the factory that makes the picture frames and does framing. I left a picture for framing and bought some other frames for picutres. I am hoping to get those up on the walls next week. We then drove into Troyes and went to the Catherdral. It was stunning and the stained glass windows are amazing. Troyes was renowned for its stained glass windows and I seem to think that there will soon be an exhibition around this activity. Thursday was “Assumption” and a holiday for everyone. Anie rang and asked if I would like to go to an Exhibition in Haute Marne. Well when she arrived it turned out to be quite some distance away at a ruined Cistercian Abbey. We had a rather long journey to get there (wrong roads) nothing to do with the navigator you understand! It was a lovely place and I thoroughly enjoyed it. On the way back we called at a Lake and went to see the Church which stands on the shore. I was very tired when we got back to my house and ended up in the chair relaxing in the evening. Monique suggested that if I was still tired I didn’t need to go to French class on Friday. Well, tired or not I had prepared a lesson for the newcomers and I wanted to be there to go through it all. I find it rather trying to have so many people speaking to me at the same time, and for one person to insist on the pronunciation of some words as in the English. She is a lovely lady but is pushing her daughter (who is quite capable) and then is rushing ahead when we are waiting for people with less ability. I am so pleased I spent my working life in banking as I really do not think I could have been a teacher! Friday evening I had to “drag” myself to the bar to meet Robert, I would have been quite happy in my chair but knew I would have to go either Friday or Saturday. I saw one of my old neighbours, Nadine, she didn’t recognise me immediately, either because I was at the bar or more probably because of my new glasses. Now this weekend I had committed to clearing up all of the outstanding bits of knitting and stitching the. hem up on the dress. As always, something comes along to put a spoke in the wheel. I checked my e-mails early this morning and found that the lady from “Citizens Advice” had messaged me yesterday asking me to forward a couple of letters received from the Prefecture and to go and see her at the Sous-Prefecture’s office in town tomorrow at 10.30. So now I am busy preparing all of the information to take to her and hopefully we will be in a position to forward further information to the Prefecture in Troyes in order to get my Titre de Sejour. Monique has volunteered to go with me and I have asked if she would make notes (in French) of what is required/discussed. So one part of me is very pleased to have the appointment and another part of me is saying you should just have done what they asked! Well, tomorrow we should know what the next move is to be. We have sunshine, a breeze and who knows maybe rain later……...I don’t care, I am heading in the right direction (I think). My eldest son, his partner and their daughter returned from their holiday. My youngest son has only another couple of days to work then he is heading to the “bright lights of London” to stay with his Aunt and Uncle. I still have over two weeks before my visitor arrives…………..oh my goodness! A bientot!
