Intervallo: Birds in the Alley
I'll take a little break in the New Mexico sequence to show some birds in the alley this morning: a Myrtle Warbler and a red-breasted nuthatch.
The myrtle (or yellow-rumped) warbler is pretty common for that family: I often see them migrating in little groups. While I reside at the south end of their breeding range, these will most likely settle down further north in the Upper Peninsula, northern Minnesota, or Canada. It lives in the Rockies at lower latitudes (but higher altitudes of course).
The Red-breasted nuthatch does live in my neck of the woods all year around, but I always like to see this species as the white-breasted version seems a bit more mundane. Birders tend to have their druthers, their favorites, and I certainly do.
