When you've eliminated then impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, is the truth.
The Proud Master and the Lost Padawan
I’m curious to know what people’s thoughts are so let’s discuss.... How would you all imagine Luminara and Barriss’s reunion post temple bombing?
I personally like to think it would be the complete opposite of the Obi-wan/Anakin confrontation in that Luminara would immediately assume guilt and she’d do everything she could to reach out to her student and help her back into the Light. I have a hard time believing that she’d raise her lightsaber against her own Padawan unless Barriss made that first move, which I also seriously doubt. Meanwhile, I think Barriss on the other hand, would be mortified about her Master knowing the truth. I truly believe that Barriss’s plan was to never be uncovered for she knew how devastating the truth would be for the one person we know for a fact, she admired. With Obi-wan, we know that Anakin is quick to put the blame on his teacher, where Barriss carries the weight of her actions instead of finger pointing.
I have a theory that Barriss’s intentions (though any rational person would agree that killing innocent people is not okay) were to simply cause a disturbance to get the Jedi Order thinking. Say what you will, but her confession rang with truth about how contradictory the Clone War was in the grand scheme of things. Barriss did not foresee her accompliance going soft on Ahsoka and that’s where it all came crashing. Ahsoka was never meant to be framed but Barriss was faced with the decision to come clean (and face the consequence of breaking Luminara’s heart) or to let Ahsoka take the hit. Unfortunately for Ahsoka, it was the latter and I think when Ventress got involved, Barriss saw an opportunity to set things right with Ahsoka by framing a former Sith alcolyte.
If you were to watch the “Ventress” and Ahsoka fight, you could see that Barriss was simply trying to knock her out not kill her. Again, not saying that I agree with her decisions, but Barriss knew she needed to make a convincing setup. Y’all gotta remember, we’re talking about two teenage girls who know nothing about coping with trauma properly and have been put through horrifying life/death situations countless times. When that didnt pan out for Barriss either, she had to accept her fate. Do I believe she was drunk with dark side power and thus claiming to like Ventress’s sabers? Yes, but not deep enough to where Anakin would get months later.
If you’ve ever read the Medstar Duology books and the Legends book “The Approaching Storm”, you’d know that Luminara and Barriss do in fact have an affectionate relationship. Luminara can be motherly when she needs to be (it’s even stated in the Legends novel that Barriss will protest of her teacher is too motherly at times) and Barriss studies and works hard to please her Master (can we talk about that amazing lightsaber dance in Legends?!). Both women respect and trust one another completely. I mean they fight in complete synchronization, how could you possibly get any closer as teacher and student?
In the Clone Wars, despite what the haters may say; you can tell with Luminara’s facial expressions that she is genuinely worried over Barriss’s well being even though she believed in her Padawan’s abilities with her whole heart. What the haters fail to see is that as the fortune cookie says in that very episode... “Attachment is not Compassion.” In other words, unlike Anakin, Luminara does not view Barriss as a possession. She sees Barriss as the young lady she is and she said herself that if they were too late in finding them, she’d celebrate her memory. That’s love right there. When you can put aside your selfish desire for another, that’s love.
As Luminara kept telling Anakin, it wasn’t that she gave up, she was just concerned that the possibility of saving the Padawan’s was slim. That didn’t stop her from helping Anakin when they were able to narrow their location down. When Barriss re-surfaces, Luminara’s usual serious facade is immediately replaced with a smile as she calls out to her. Furthermore, it was Luminara who was humble and protective with Ahsoka when Anakin was somewhere else (accepting/apologizing to Ahsoka for not accepting help against Ventress and then helping Ahsoka back up when she nearly falls to a fiery demise) So for people to call Luminara “cold” is just mind boggling to me. Everyone expresses love differently, so God forbid Luminara doesn’t buckle into an emotional mess when things get rough.
Additionally, Luminara does not hold a seat in the Jedi High Council so it could be assumed that the older woman shared Barriss’s resentment towards the Clone Wars. Luminara is constantly wishing she met her comrades in more “peaceful circumstances” and in “Approaching Storm” both Master and Apprentice share their dislike for politics and unnessary violence. If anything Luminara might have been just as frustrated as Barriss was with their constant separation with war time duties. The real tragedy that unlike Anakin and Ahsoka where there was clearly a lot of leeway in the two of them being on missions together (I’m in no way bashing either character, I love them both as well, so don’t come for me there), the Mirilans didn’t have that luxury so Barriss was able to fall before Luminara could do anything about it.
All in all, I feel Luminara would rather die than condemn the girl she knew to be a graceful warrior and a gifted healer. Luminara most likely not forgive her Padawan’s wrongful killing, but as Padme said with Anakin, she’d also still feel that’s still good inside. The poor girl just lost herself and the war she hated so much ripped her Master away from her. Barriss I feel would eventually come down from her dark side high and work hard to redeem herself for her Master.
That’s enough of my ramblings, what do you think? Wish Feloni would give us the complete story we were promised so long ago!

THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES SPOILERS JESUS...
@gffa Another friend of mine also said it solid! I am getting it lmao I also glad knowing Collins kept the theme of the book in mind and this basically prepping the THG trilogy well then!
NO REAL SPOILERS IN THIS REPLY only that I will say to anyone wondering if they should pick it up: I absolutely think this book enhances The Hunger Games, both on a worldbuilding level and a character building level, not just for the characters present in the book itself (though, that, too) but for how it puts light on characters like Katniss, how we see both “sides” of the war that has ground down everyone in Panem. There is sympathy for terrible people in this book, but in a way that I felt only highlights that they do not rise above it, we know they won’t, because we know where they are 60-70 years later, and that it’s about how cruelty begets cruelty, that this is a cycle of trauma and abuse that has been doing on for a long time now, and we’re seeing that in action. But it’s also about how the Hunger Games became the spectacle it is, it’s about how things got to the point they were in the original trilogy, it’s sort of horrifying to see so many of the pieces starting to float into place, how it went from this gruesome thing nobody really seemed to like much into the country’s biggest reality show phenomenon. I was wary that a book like this would hold my attention, despite how much I loved THG books, but even having just read a third of it I think it’s a worthy addition. I’ve seen some mixed reviews, so mileages may vary, but I’m very much in favor of at least giving it a shot.

Sherlock & Joan: "And I think, even though we might draw further or nearer from each other...you and I are bound."
For the ask meme: its actually Luke and Artem fic, when artem decided to be sad huggy bear while hugging luke. i think thats when something clicked in my mind that i can make them bond more (those pair sacrificial bastards who tend to take things of themselves) and hang out together (also why i been putting lukerosaartem as lunch trio in my fics), thank you for writing that fic!
wahhhh, yet another submission for "in vino veritas, or something like that..." as a memorable fic :D im glad the huggy bear scene struck you because it was so fun to write that, i LOVE fictional character cuddling. even moreso when it's cuddling under bizarre circumstances HAHA
and YAYYYYY YESSS i totally agree and support more artem & luke bonding. i love the lukerosatem lunch trio you have in your fics, it's so cozy and very in character that luke would just kinda show up like a stray dog to join in on lunches kJBKLJSF
