Turning Back Time References

Hello there, gentle readers, just wanted to talk about what inspired some aspects of this time travel crazy story. 😊

1) The Moon Necklace and the Gold Sun

So basically the design of the moon necklace Bradley wears in the fic and the gold sun is inspired by the iconic medallions worn by Esteban and Zia in the 1980s series The Mysterious Cities of Gold. If you haven't seen the original show, I highly recommend it! Note that this inspiration comes specifically from the 80s version, as I haven't seen the more recent sequels.

2) Andrea and Alexander

The inspiration for Bradley's mare, Andrea, and his father's stallion, Alexander, comes from the horses in the anime Lady!! and its sequel, Hello! Lady Lynn. These were my absolute favorite shows growing up (I'm a huge fan of 80s anime!) I did decide to swap their genders for my versions: in the anime, Alexander is a female named Alexandra, while Andrea is a male named Andrews. Also, Gloria (Bradley's mother's horse) is inspired by Andrews' mother from the series.

3) Bradley ordering Max to fetch the necklace from a mud puddle, forcing him to pick it up with his teeth

This scene was inspired by the 1994 Mexican telenovela Marimar, starring Thalia. There is a specific moment where the antagonist, Angelica, forces Marimar to get her bracelet from a mud puddle using only her teeth. I don't remember much of this telenovela. I was too young when I watched it with my older cousins, but this scene stayed with me. It haunted me. It was just so cruel! I knew it would be the perfect way to showcase Bradley's deep hatred for Max in the fic. I can also feel that it resonated with my readers as the wonderful Loudo made fanart about it. :)

That's mostly it. Everything else came from my crazy head. 😊

(Katkootah is a cutesy way of saying katkoot, which means chick and comes from the katkat cheeping sound they make, and is also used to describe someone cute [feminine], katkoot being the male equivalent. Sghanoonah is a very cutesy diminutive of sagheerah / small, little one... shibr wu nus is an exaggerated description of someone being very tiny, it literally means shibr: the span between the thumb and little finger, an ancient Arabic unit of measure... and a half. Shibr and a half. xD)
