Hello @lady-macgyver! It seems like ages since we last spoke on here (not long elsewhere though...)

I’ve already stated that I had enormous fun writing a Kilgrave crossover as a Tatennant AU; but my first love remains Ten/Donna in the Doctor Who fandom. Not exactly a big shock, that one. 

14. afic you didn’t expect to write

Erm... There were plenty of fics I wanted to write and didn’t, but in answer to your question, it was probably Back To Life. I managed to confuse quite a lot of people with that one, yet my muse had insisted that I write it. *shrugs* Never mind, eh?

I was tagged by the highly talented @geekns (go read her stuff). Thank you! :D Sorry for the delay in doing this but I’m never good at decisions at the best of times.... 

1.      Return to the View Cam - one of the first fanfics I ever wrote (the first three were written all in one go), and the thought of it amused me a great deal. Fortunately, other people said the same thing otherwise I would never have continued to write. 

2.      The Girl From Beyond – this was totally made up as I went along, so it was fun to find out what happened next to Donna coping with a psychotic situation; as I wrote out my angst; although I’m still not happy with the ending

3.      Back in the Day  – writing this Blink AU fic kept me sane during a deep period of mourning

4.      Happy Birthday PFU - the only fic here that isn’t Doctor/Donna but Peter/Donna, was written as a challenge when TKelParis visited me and set me this task as she sat next to me. A bit like a fun exam, now that I think about it. :)

5.      The Mail Order Bride  - this AU idea had festered for a couple of years until I suddenly knew exactly what to do with it

have you ever…?

I was tagged by the truly wonderful @pharohtrinity. Thank you! Fortunately I found this out quite by chance because my email notifications aren’t working anymore.

Have You Ever:

- Said “I love you”?  Oh yes. Loads of times

- Waited all night for a phone call?  No! Sod doing that. 

- Stayed out literally all night?  Erm… I suppose not. The latest I have ever got home is 5am.

- Snuck out?  No. Fortunately never had the need to

- Smoked a cigarette?  No. I would never ever smoke a cigarette. Yuck!

- Slept in a bed with a person of the same sex?  Yes. My childhood was spent sharing a bed with my sister; and I’ve shared beds with cousins too.

- Stolen money from a friend?  What?!! No, definitely not.

- Been on an airplane?  Yes; both in an aircraft museum sort of a way (like exploring Concord or a B52 bomber), and actually flown overseas in something like a 747.

- Slept all day?  Unfortunately yes. I was in so much pain, unable to move my head, that being totally zonked out for days was a blessing.

- Missed someone so much it hurt?  Definitely. And it still hurts.

- Fallen asleep during school?  No. As a child I would not have dared, and as an adult it was unthinkable because I would have been fired from my job.

- Been lonely?  I’d always been able to cope with being alone but being at home as a new mother with a young child was extremely lonely.

- Cheated at a game?  Only when everyone else was and we were laughing so hard it didn’t matter.

- Gotten lost?  Yes; but it has always proven useful. Plus, it allowed me to buy a map, and I do love a decent map!

- Been in a car accident?  A couple of times, but the car has always fared worse than we did.

- Had detention?  Only one of those ‘whole class’ things; or actually supervising one.

- Given money to a homeless person?  Yes.

- Been so happy you cried?  Oh yes! Going to the opening night of Tatennant’s  “Much Ado About Nothing” springs to mind for some reason. 

- Regretted loving someone?  Strangely enough, no. I’ve been hurt - don’t get me wrong – but it was a character-building experience and a life lesson.

- Got in trouble with the law?  Nothing beyond being asked by a policeman not to practise my driving in a public car park.

- Have you ever had a secret admirer?  Much to my surprise, apparently I have; although I was assured by the girl who told me that I wouldn’t like him.

- Been scuba diving?  No, sadly. Haven’t lost my chance yet though…

- Broken a bone?  Yes. I broke a bone in my foot whilst dancing the can-can. Not exactly something you can boast about.

- Been told you have an accent? I’ll have you know that I’ve been told that I’ve got an accent people love. [Mainly because it’s an obviously British one, and I come from London; although gawd knows why they liked my version of it] I responded that if they wanted it, they could have it – thus earning the laugh I was after. ;)

My stories tend to be posted on LiveJournal first, so I’ll go by there to find my last 20 stories (using the posting date of the latest chapter).

1)      Another Life, Another Country [Doctor Who: Donna&Ten] Donna slumped to the floor of the tiny room; far down in the deepest depths of the dungeons. 

2)      One Stop Swap [Doctor Who:Tentoo&Donna] It was as the metacrisis version of the Doctor stepped over the threshold of a large room that he knew exactly what this was.

3)      Young Cookie Love [The Office/Fright Night: Nellie/Peter] Nellie Bertram huffed a sigh and repositioned the elastic band that held her long ginger hair in place.

4)      Clearly Edible [Doctor Who/Broadchurch: Donna&Hardy] Another day, another dollar; so they say.

5)      Happy Birthday PFU [Fright Night/Doctor Who: Peter/Donna] It had been a long, draining day of studying. 

6)      The Mail Order Bride [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna] There was a strange “putt, putt, putt” sound as John Smith stood looking out across the water from the quay of the small trading port, towards a vessel called the Princess Victoria.

10)   Not-A-Date Night [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna] “Come this way, madam. I’ll direct your guest to you as soon as he arrives,” the restaurant hostess pleasantly assured Donna as she led the way through the room and to her booked table for two.

11)   Ghost Steps [Doctor Who: Donna&Twelve] It was the whispers on the breeze that woke up Edgar from his deep slumbers.

14)   Housemates [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna] It was late into the evening when a young couple sauntered along a well-worn path that led up to a block of pre-war houses recently inhabited by various groups of students.

15)   Ill Met By Walford [Doctor Who/EastEnders: Ten/Donna] Donna Noble carefully considered the script in her hands.

16)   Parent Teacher Night [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna] It had seemed like such a good idea to get a few qualifications under her belt and retrain to do something useful with her life. 

17)   A Minute Waltz [Doctor Who: Tatennant, Ten/Donna] “…and then we want you to throw yourselves about in the TARDIS as if you are drunk,” Graeme Harper directed both David and Catherine as they stood, ready and waiting, in their studio places for the Tenth Doctor and his companion Donna.

18)   Picture of You? [Broadchurch: Hardy/Miller] It had happened at the worse possible moment imaginable.

19)   And How Do You Feel About That [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna] From somewhere behind them a clock loudly ticked on, stabbing through the silence that had momentarily fallen on the stuffy room.

20)   Welcome [Doctor Who: Ten/Donna/Tentoo] “Now that you are part Time Lord, Donna Noble, it is appropriate that you also learn something else,” the Doctor whispered into her ear, “something spectacular.”

Is there a pattern? Well, I seem to be rather found of the word “it” as a starter; otherwise I can’t see an obvious pattern at all. Unless always writing in past tense (as I was taught at school) can be classed as a pattern? Personally, I wouldn’t class it as such. 

If you manage to spot a pattern, do let me know, as I’m keen to find out.... in a not-fretting-over-it-but-am-nosey-enough-to-hear-your-thoughts sort of a way.

*is stumped* Sorry this took so long but have you any idea how tricky this is?!! (On FFN alone I have posted over a million words so I dread to think how much is on LJ). And despite appearances, I hate promoting my stuff like this. Anyway, here goes:

1. Back To Base (LJ, FFN, and AO3) Donna and the Duplicate Doctor have been dumped together on Earth after the Doctor has gone off with Rose at the end of an alternative JE. So...erm...what do you do if you're half human, half Time Lord? Things could get complicated. 2. Donna’s Human Nature (LJ, FFN and AO3) Yes, yet another Series 3 re-write where the Doctor has to hide his scent; posing as a human to escape the Family of Blood, but this time it's with Donna and she isn't happy about it. Well, not at first… 3. Back In The Day (LJ, FFN and AO3) What if Donna replaced Martha in Series 3, and during Blink she is transported back in 1969 to live with the Doctor in a tiny flat above a newspaper shop that happens to be owned by Wilf. 4. Wedding Showers (LJ, FFN and AO3) The Doctor and Donna are invited to Martha and Mickey’s wedding, but there’s a misunderstanding that becomes a complication. And that's just the start of their journey. 5. Just Around The Corner (LJ, FFN and AO3) Donna left the TARDIS with the Duplicate Doctor in tow, hell bent on caring for him. I was tagged by the wonderfully talented and fantastic @msdonnatemplenoble. Thank you, love! :D Sorry this took a while but I’m in the process of moving house.

Is there a snack you like to eat while writing? Erm, not particularly. But I do like a cup of tea; and keep a bottle of water close by

What time of day do you usually write? Any time of the day or night, whenever the urge grabs me

Where do you write? Most of the time I sit on the settee to write but I’ve found I can easily write on a train, in a station, in the middle of Trafalgar Square; practically anywhere.

How often do you write a new novel? I would have denied at one time that I have written a novel, but I was contacted by a website who informed me that anything over 50,000 words can be classed as a novel. To be honest, everything starts off in my head as being less than 3 chapters, and I just let it organically grow. That doesn’t really answer the question, does it? Oops!

Do you listen to music while you write? I often have music on in the background but it isn’t a necessity.  

What’s your writing utensil? Paper or laptop?  It all depends where exactly I’m writing. At home I tend to write on my laptop or iPad, but everywhere else I write in a notebook. There is always at least one notebook in my bag wherever I travel.

Do you have a special pre-writing ritual? Erm… Shove hubby out of the way, perhaps – he’s like a child with the way he demands my attention, but fortunately these days he falls asleep long before I do.

What do you do to get into the writing mood? Just think. It’s as simple as that; although cutting up French stick or generally preparing food can be extremely inspirational for ideas to overcome tricky bits in a fic.  Sometimes I just sit and write down whatever comes into my head without conscious thought; going with the flow, as it were. The results are bizarre but usually very intriguing.

What do you always have near the place you write? The telephone, the tv remote, a surface to balance a cup of tea on, and a bottle of water in case I need to take some medication immediately.

Do you have a reward system for word counts? No, not at all. There was far too much emphasis on a word count when I had to write essays, to be honest. I find that sort of thinking extremely distractive and it totally takes the fun out of the writing process.  I don’t even do the “finishing writing in the middle of a sentence in order to make sure you come back to it later” because that would drive me up the wall. I stop writing when I have got down onto the page the image in my mind, or at least a recognisable copy of it that I can embellish later. BUT saying that, when I do reach a sufficient word count that would allow for another chapter to be posted, I let myself type in the next chapter heading as a reward. Err… does that make me sound weird? Probably.

Is there anything else about your writing process your readers don’t know?  Doesn’t this make me sound grand? As though I was famous or actually paid for what I do; and I will admit that hubby refers to my writing as my job, done on a voluntary basis, which is true when I think about it. Like many other writers (amateur or professional), I collect minute details that I don’t actually end up using; but I’d feel a fraud if I don’t research something first. Quite often I collect images to inspire me, and have thousands of them saved on my laptop. I keep a copy of everything that I write or am inspired by; including comments and videos. My files have start dates, finished dates and posting dates included within them – record keeping was a legal requirement for my job so it’s a hard habit to break. What else can I tell you? A great deal of my writing comes about due to some flippant remark I have made. I’ve tried writing out a whole story first and only then posting it online, but I HATE doing that; I really do. Normally I have the first two or three chapters written before I start posting, and far too often it is only the first chapter that is ready. The rest of it gets added when and if I feel like writing it. I learnt very early on that it pays to listen to your muse rather than try to force the creative process, otherwise you get continuously bombarded by the same story until it beats you into submission. I have some highly detailed plotlines waiting in the wings to be written, and more than a few waiting to be completed, but I just have to bide my time and write them when I’m allowed to.  Every now and then I am deeply affected by angst, so I have appropriate storylines ready so that I can cope with that. Other than that, my favourite thing to write is more humorous stuff. Good grief! Don’t I waffle on. Just think how pretentious I’d be if I were a professional writer – there’d be no way to shut me up. ;p
