"Issue #34: Sunset Days"

Here we are! The start of something great and terrible! Defiance has arrived, and we have no choice but to wait and see if anyone makes it out alive.

I never quite got to work Hush Puppy's fate as much into the comic as I wanted, so I'll go into it a little more here. She did starve to death, like Egrettail says. As Thrasher put more time into "training" his growing kits and less into hunting, Hush Puppy got less food and gave up a lot of her own for the kittens. A combination of that and pure stress just sapped everything from her.

Also, I feel this may need to be said; yes, the dream canine with blue eyes is Rainhaze, not Prowl, but Pinepaw doesn't know that. It is dramatic irony.

I do actually have a character who was a medicine cat that became leader, but he's from my other Warriors OC webcomic. His name is Houndstar.

"Issue #30: Time Is a Circle"

The story that Cypressfoot talks about in this issue is a reference to Issue 2, where she doesn't get very far into it except saying RoseClan's name for the first time. What she does end up telling is an expanded version of Nightberry's story from Issue 7, with more details and specific character names. And yes, it does indeed confirm that Longest-Claws and an early form of his predator gang were the ones who destroyed the original lost Clans.

In the first panel on the 3rd page, I included a couple cameos of other comicker's characters. They belong to thegreatmaddu, Giogeth, Songdogx, and StarrySwirly.

If you aren't familiar with the seasonal antler cycle and are very confused by why Deepdark is covered in blood goop, he's in the process of shedding! During the summer months, while deer grow their antlers, they're covered with a fuzzy substance called velvet. This fuzz is in fact full of veins and tissue, so in mid-fall when the antlers begin to shed, they can appear very bloody as the velvet falls off, leaving those familiar, calcified pointy antlers behind.

Next issue is a big one.

she lived during wheatstar and ladybugstar’s reign! massiffur was always the first to volunteer for a patrol. her scars are from various beatings from challenging trespassing loners. she has three feathers twined into her tail.

She often dreamed of lusher fields of grassland to race around in and eat as much fresh-kill as she could hold.

she had three litters of kits, but only one son survived to adulthood, Goshawkfeather. Despite rarely showing it, she’s extremely proud of how much he’s survived, and she’d give her own life to see him happy. Massiffur did her best to keep him oblivious to BarrenClan’s struggles.

The loss of her many kits ruined her relationship with her mate, Stripescowl, and Massiffur pushed away any cat that tried offering comfort. She claimed that she didn’t need anyone. She was CLEARLY fine on her own.

she ended up dying of heat exhaustion, and her last words consisted of cussing out each of her clanmates. She is angry that her life was spent living in BarrenClan’s wastelands, and she wishes that she would have ran away instead.

Awwh cool! I love an OC being set in the history of this story, that's really neat.

Does… does ladybugstar have a design… please tell me they are red

Special delivery just for you maddy :) Unfortunately I did not read the rest of your ask before opening it so he is brown </3 but his EYES are red!

He was the leader after Wheatstar, and took over during BarrenClan's most unhinged, disorganized point. The effort of pulling the Clan back together nearly killed him, and he was feverish and skinny for the rest of his tenure. He often lost his train of thought during meetings, forgot to eat, and slept a lot.

Hi!!! Been reading this comic recently and find it really cool :] Was curious about Wheatstar and Barrenclans past recently and came up with some thoughts, so sorry if these have already been asked before.

First, after Wheatstar renamed Roseclan to Barrenclan, what happened right after? Some of my own thoughts are that some cats may have left in search of new territory/clans, or some were just angry for Wheatstars decision. And what was Wheatstar doing? Were they all just building a camp on the barren wasteland peacefully for the next couple of moons? Also curious if Wheatstar has any alive descendants still 👀 Curiosity real

After RoseClan returned to find the other Clans vanished (I figure this is a good place to put it, so if you're curious, they were called JadeClan, MossClan, and LilyClan) and the land destroyed, Wheatstar renamed them to BarrenClan in a fit of despair. About a fourth of the Clan fractured off and fled, either in terror or rejection of Wheatstar's new rules.

The rest of BarrenClan felt just as guilty and miserable as their leader, and after their last attempt to flee ended with them getting driven back in a forest fire, many felt that it was pointless to even try to leave. Much of the first few years of BarrenClan's life was a dark period, filled with hunger, fear, and very little organization. They lived in abandoned dens, under rockshelters, anywhere they could find food or water. Many cats died, and the Clan barely hung on. Wheatstar grew more and more unhinged, and eventually she starved to death and was replaced by the next year, Ladybugstar.

Over time, they adapted to life in the wastes and their hardcore rules and traditions got set in place. A more structured camp was dug in a rocky clearing, but the truth of RoseClan continued to be hidden and BarrenClan's truncated origin story was spread. At least three generations, maybe four or five, were born from this period to the present. Cypressfoot was born during the "dark period".

Who were the leaders in order? First to current leader

Alright, starting with Wheatstar and ending with Mallowstar:

Wheatstar -> Ladybugstar -> Cricketstar -> Wolfstar -> Mallowstar

This all happened over the course of about 20 - 21 years; remember, in this universe leaders don't have nine lives, just one, and life is pretty unforgiving in the wastes. There's more turnover than average in the canon Clans.
