"The Death of BarrenClan: Part Five"

And with that, the "Death of BarrenClan" arc comes to an end! Thank you all for reading along and for the wonderful response to each issue.

The comic is not over yet; there are four issues left, plus a series of epilogues, where our cast will have to mourn their losses, pick up the pieces of their lives, and figure out what to do next.

I've been wondering, how long ago has it really been since Longest-Claws showed up and killed off the other clans? Like, I know its been multiple generations for the clan cats, but it seems Deepdark was alive at the time, if I'm not mixing anything up in my head. At the very least, Prowl and Spike would've been around, right? So, in terms of years, about how long has it been?

Deepdark was not alive at the time! Neither was Prowl, Spike, or Fang, for that matter. Deepdark is about 9 years old - the old Clans were destroyed about 20 - 21 years before present day.

This is basically what the timeline looks like, disregard any scaling issues as I didn't measure it exactly. But all the numbers should be right.

Is that Longest-Claws's skull and bones under the wisteria tree at the end of Issue 22?

That is a pretty cool idea, actually. I just intended it to be a big cat skull, but I like the idea of it being Longest-Claws more.

wait, are the claws/teeth in Deepdark's harness Longest-Claws' claws and teeth?? or is it just stuff he's collected over the years from many victims?

All of the above! They're assorted claws and teeth from various kinds of animals, including Longest-Claws's parts. The long, whitish pieces are old antlers.

He was born in a petting zoo! He used to give rides to children when he was full grown, and escaped while wearing them. I'll make a backstory comic with him someday.

"Issue #30: Time Is a Circle"

...that's why clocks are round!

The story that Cypressfoot talks about in this issue is a reference to Issue 2, where she doesn't get very far into it except saying RoseClan's name for the first time. What she does end up telling is an expanded version of Nightberry's story from Issue 7, with more details and specific character names. And yes, it does indeed confirm that Longest-Claws and an early form of his predator gang were the ones who destroyed the original lost Clans.

In the first panel on the 3rd page, I included a couple cameos of other comicker's characters. They belong to thegreatmaddu, Giogeth, Songdogx, and StarrySwirly.

If you aren't familiar with the seasonal antler cycle and are very confused by why Deepdark is covered in blood goop, he's in the process of shedding! During the summer months, while deer grow their antlers, they're covered with a fuzzy substance called velvet. This fuzz is in fact full of veins and tissue, so in mid-fall when the antlers begin to shed, they can appear very bloody as the velvet falls off, leaving those familiar, calcified pointy antlers behind.

Next issue is a big one.

Prowl, just after Longest-Claws's death: holy SHIT that was the scariest fucking thing I've ever experienced. That deer just tore Longest-Claws apart like he was nothing and ripped out his fucking organs. He's a monster. He's not even an animal.
