Flanked by Gallifreyan guards within a specially protected chamber, Rhoda was escorted to the large courtroom of Time Lord officials. The jury sat in semi-circular rows, bedecked in ceremonial robes and headdresses, their faces as solemn as expected. At the head of the court was an older woman in the splendour of a judicial position, the very same Time Lady that had greeted XI on his arrival to his home planet. To her right stood the figure for both prosecution and legal procedure, another female whose name he had learned to be Shennadraxun (Shen) who seemed altogether more agreeable than the Valeyard of his last trial. XI himself was perceived to be seated in a high-backed chair, his arms and legs strapped as though he were prepared for an execution. There was a device attached to his temple, the only indication that he was in fact a projection onto the courtroom, able to see the proceedings through a virtual reality. He was alone on his side of the room, allowing space for his defence to appear as and when it was needed. It was not custom for defence, however, to be present at these parts of the trial.
Once Rhoda had been guided to the appropriate stand within an invisibly-shielded booth, Shen moved to the centre of the room and addressed her directly. “Please state your name and your relationship to the person situated on my left.” She indicated XI, who greeted Rhoda with a disingenuous smile.
