Seb curls his fingers around the muzzle of the gun, clicks the safety on and then off again. “Boss?”

“A reward for a job well done, of course.” Jim’s slippery, indecisive, untrustworthy, but his praise laps at Seb’s sensitive heels like a warm soft wet tongue, and he leans into it.

They both lie back on the grass, look up into the wide expanse of neverending stars on display, available only on certain jobs, in certain places, and only if you came out on the other side what Jim really wants.

“Right,” Seb says, because thank you is trite and really? is humiliating and the best thing to do, in these moments, is to let Jim feel good, because the better Jim feels, the better Seb does, and he’s not about to fuck with that.
