Cool submission! I started in improv and Nicole's experience is very similar to mine (right down to a visit to the UCB inspiring me to sign up for improv classes when I got home). I always recommend improv as a gentle way to start in comedy, because while there are still the same dark forces (racism, sexism, homophobia) at work in the improv world, it is by its nature a more collaborative and supportive format to learn to perform (and fail) in.
