Growing up, I didn’t do much gardening. We lived in apartments all my life. And any small space for gardening, Dad did it. Also, it seemed I always had something else better to do in urban Singapore. As a kid, doing extra studying was probably prioritised over gardening. But what I did know about gardening, was that Dad enjoyed it and was good at it. It connected him to growing up in a kampong, a village, in eastern Singapore. By the time I came along, village life was largely non-existent in Singapore. I’m so glad that my little girl is getting the opportunity to do gardening, one I didn’t allow myself when I was younger. I’m so heartened to see her so comfortable being with nature, being outdoors before turning two. Seeing her understand that when you plant a seed in the soil, water it, care for it, that it grows into something big and beautiful, or as she calls it “pweety”, really makes me all mushy inside. She knows that the plants will grow into beans, broccoli, strawberries… She wants to join in gardening for now. Let’s see how long that lasts :) Meanwhile, I’m just going to savour every moment of it. #dadlife #daddysgirl #laelynnrae https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd4DLXnqPUB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Amidst the fatigue of juggling fatherhood and work, I must not let these magical moments slip me by. A year ago, she barely interacted with the fishes. A year later, she’s pointing and naming them. Keep pointing me in the direction to go ‘lil rae. #dadlife #daddysgirl #laelynnrae #startupdad https://www.instagram.com/p/CaJ180hOrOW/?utm_medium=tumblr
One of the things we try to do is share with the little one as much of the great outdoors as possible, cloudy or sunny, chilly or sunny. #laelynnrae #daddysgirl #dadlife https://www.instagram.com/p/COi_FKRniWd/?igshid=177b5v3cnj96
Come on, I’ve got places to go, beaches to hit! #laelynnrae #daddysgirl #dadlife https://www.instagram.com/p/COi9U9-nBC_/?igshid=r2gfgeurmjwu
After a tough week, this is one of two faces that keeps me going, a reminder I am more than what I think I measure myself against. I am so grateful to have a daily reminder at home that it’s worth putting myself out there daily. I have something to fight for greater than myself. And for that, I am grateful. #laelynnrae #dadlife #daddysgirl https://www.instagram.com/p/CNvC2w6HCvt/?igshid=1xuu6we2nnc7y
Day 4/10. Her first time at the beach. I wonder when’s the next. #laelynnrae #daddysgirl https://www.instagram.com/p/CNPDSBfHSm4/?igshid=scyfig9kh3qq
