Back @ #laharborcollege today‼️ Last time we were here, weeks back, we spoke to students. Today, we were elated to speak to staff at our Los Angeles Harbor College about the top issues they are seeing LAUSD students face at this level. We learned that many students are coming in with a history of low expectations, many are not where they should be academically which impacts efficacy and their confidence. Last but not least, we heard students here often need more supports to deal with the very real challenging decisions poverty brings. Namely, choosing financially sustaining self and family or taking one more class. Going from @johncfremonths to @ucla these are all obstacles I faced. Our campaign is eager to support local, state and national plans towards free community college, but we are as eagerly working to make sure academic rigor is a part of the plan. I believe LAUSD can be a partner in that, but it takes listening and learning together. Hopeful to continue the work in partnership... I even picked up a cool new shirt‼️ (at Los Angeles Harbor College EOPS Program) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0mAbGEhcKR/?igshid=19w6qqn32hywz
