laiys x reader - behind the lens / fluff
warnings: crowded event, light flirting, mild language, brief awkward/shy interactions, casual conversation, soft fluff

today was jay cinco and lala baptiste’s baby shower, and cinna had been talking about it all week like it was the most important event ever. she told you what color theme it was, what people were gonna be there, what she was gonna wear, even what kind of desserts they might have like she already knew.
you didn’t really know what to expect.
it was your first time going to something like that, and you didn’t wanna underdress or look out of place, so you kept it simple. something nice, a little more formal than what you’d usually wear, but still comfortable enough to move around in because you knew you’d be filming for her.
cinna, on the other hand, went all out.
she wore a pink and white dress that fit perfectly with the whole theme, soft colors, light fabric, something that moved when she walked. she looked really put together without even trying that hard.
“is this too much?” she asked before you guys left.
“no,” you said. “it matches.”
“okay good,” she smiled. “you look good too.”
“thank you.”
the drive there was calm, but once you got close, you could already tell it was gonna be a lot. cars lined up outside, people walking in dressed just as nice, some even more.
when you stepped inside, it didn’t even feel like a regular house anymore. everything was decorated, soft pinks and whites everywhere, balloons, flowers, tables set up neatly, a whole section just for desserts.
and people.
a lot of people.
you recognized faces almost immediately. some streamers, some influencers, even a few athletes you’d only ever seen online or on tv. it felt a little overwhelming at first, just standing there next to cinna while everything moved around you.
“this is really nice,” she said, looking around.
“yeah,” you nodded. “it is.”
for the first two hours, there was no streaming allowed, which honestly made it easier. you didn’t have to think about angles or framing or keeping up with movement. you could just… be there for a while.
you and cinna mostly stayed together, walking around, looking at everything, stopping at different food sections. there was a lot more than you expected, full catering, drinks, desserts, a whole crepe station set up off to the side.
“i’m going there later,” cinna said, pointing at it.
“yeah me too.”
you grabbed small things here and there, nothing too much, just enough to keep you from being hungry while you walked around.
after a while, more people she knew started showing up, and she kept getting pulled into conversations. you stayed close, but not too close, letting her talk while you stood next to her, occasionally adding something in but mostly just listening.
that’s when jason walked up.
“hey cinna,”
“hiii jason!” cinna said, pulling him into a quick hug.
“you came early,” he said.
“yeah i wanted to see everything before it got too packed,” she replied.
they kept talking, going back and forth easily like they always do, and you stood there for a second before glancing toward the crepe section again.
“i’m gonna grab something,” you said quietly.
cinna nodded. “okay, i’ll be here.”
you walked off, weaving through people until you got to the crepe station.
there was a small line, not too long. you stepped behind someone, adjusting your hold on the camera in your hands, letting it rest more comfortably against your palm.
the guy in front of you was taller than you, wearing a striped black and white shirt, his hair slightly messy like he didn’t really try to fix it much. he had a tvu backpack on too, the same one you had, which you noticed almost immediately.
he turned around for a second, just a quick glance, and your eyes met for a moment before he turned back around.
you looked away, then back again without really thinking, just kind of taking in small details.
he stepped forward, telling the lady what he wanted on his crepe, and you listened without meaning to, still standing there waiting your turn.
your camera shifted slightly in your hands, the weight catching you off guard for a second and slipping just enough that your grip loosened—
but you caught it mid air quickly, adjusting it back into place.
the guy in front of you turned around almost instantly.
“they get pretty heavy huh?”
you look confused for a second before you realize what he’s talking about. “oh yeah, my hands also just dont have pretty good grip.” you say forcing a small breathy laugh.
he smiles a little at that, nodding. “nah it’s not even that, they’re just awkward to hold for a long time.”
“yeah,” you say. “especially when you’ve been carrying it all day.”
“you filming for someone?” he asks.
“cinna,” you reply.
“oh okay,” he nods. “that makes sense.”
you glance at his backpack. “you too?”
“yeah,” he says. “i’m with ron.”
you nod slightly. “i figured.”
“i’m laiys, by the way.”
you tell him your name, adjusting your hold on the camera again.
“first time to a baby shower?” he asks.
“yeah,” you say. “i didn’t know what to expect.”
“yea me too,” he says, glancing around. “but it’s cool.”
“yup,” you nod.
there’s a small pause, just waiting as the lady starts making his order.
“you been doing camera stuff for a while?” he asks.
“yeah,” you say. “you?”
“yea kinda,” he nods. “you get used to it after a bit.”
“i’m still getting used to it,” you admit.
“nah you seem like you got it,” he says.
you smile a little. “i try.”
his crepe is done, and he steps forward to grab it, but instead of leaving, he moves off to the side, waiting while you step up next.
you tell the lady what you want, feeling him still there even though he already got his food.
“good choice,” he says casually.
“you don’t even know what i picked,” you say.
“i heard,” he replies.
you glance at him, smiling slightly.
you get your crepe, thanking the lady before stepping off to the side next to him.
“you going back?” he asks.
“yeah,” you say. “cinna’s probably still talking tho.”
“ron too,” he says.
you both start walking back the same direction without really saying anything about it.
as you get closer, you can see the group now—
ron standing there with cinna, still mid conversation, and now silky, max, and kaysan are all there too, talking over each other like usual.
“yeah they’re not leaving anytime soon,” laiys says.
“yeah,” you nod.
you both slow down a little without really saying it, not rushing back into the group yet.
“kinda easier like this though,” he adds.
“yeah,” you say. “less crowded.”
there’s a small pause as you keep walking side by side.
“you got instagram?” he asks after a second, casual like it just came to him.
you look at him for a second. “yeah.”
“what is it?”
you tell him, watching as he pulls his phone out and types it in.
“got it,” he says, showing you quickly before following.
“i’ll follow you back,” you say.
“you better,” he replies, smiling a little.
you shake your head slightly, smiling too.
you’re closer to the group now, their voices louder, cinna laughing at something ron just said.
“i’ll see you around though,” laiys says.
“yeah,” you nod.
he gives you a small look, then heads over toward jawhn and lazer, sliding back into the conversation like he was there the whole time.
you step back up next to cinna, standing beside her again, camera still in your hands, the same as before.
your phone buzzes lightly in your hand.
you glance down.
laiysxdxd followed you.
you smile to yourself for a second before locking your phone again, looking back up at the group like nothing happened.
