Lake had been out a lot later than he expected that night. The bookstore had closed at 11, leaving him loitering outside for one more drag off his blunt before walking home. He heard something rustling in the alley behind him, his entire body freezing as he turned slightly, blunt hanging out of his lips. He turned back a moment later after seeing nothing, eyes fluttering shut as the high overtook him. He wasn’t expecting a voice next to him only a moment later, his entire body jumping up with an embarrassing yelp on his lips. “Fuck!” He shouted, brow furrowed as his eyes flew open.
