Looking from Shortoff to Lake James on a hot, cloudless morning. . . We had a huge hike that day, one that involved hiking down into the gorge, crossing the Linville River (thigh deep!), climbing back out of the gorge, and following some unused roads over two more peaks before heading down the other side.
