Cascade Canyon North Fork and Lake Solitude, Grand Teton National Park, October 2021 Since Grand Teton is right below Yellowstone, the same snowstorm that blanketed Yellowstone (and caused me to stay in Yellowstone a little longer than planned) also blanketed Grand Teton so I had no idea whether I would be able to make it to Lake Solitude or even the camp site since no one knew how much snow was up there. Furthermore, Leigh Lake was so awesome that I considered not even trying to take the risk to make it up to the camp site near Lake Solitude and maybe see if I could just stay another night at Leigh Lake instead. I’m so glad I decided to go in the end and take the chance because it was totally worth it! I almost gave up since there was a stretch that seemed to be endless switchbacks but I powered through and the rest of the hike was a gradual incline. I also almost didn’t make it to Lake Solitude since my legs started to cramp when I had 0.5 miles to go. But I made it to both the camp site and Lake Solitude and it was amazing camping in the mountains! Ironically it was also the warmest night I had camped in since the overnight temperature was actually above freezing! I also got really lucky since the original forecast had rain on my hike back down, but it shifted to the afternoon so I was able to make it back to my car without getting wet! I did have a casualty though…I put my crampons outside my pack to try and save space since I saw the case had a loop but when I put my pack down I saw that the crampon case had fallen off and I didn’t see it on my way down so someone must have picked it up. Oh well. I got great use out of them!
