Although I initially chose this lake due to its proximity to my home, I later learned that the bulk of manual labor of removing soil and digging to bedrock to turn the original sag pond into a lake was provided by Chinese immigrants in the late 1800s, connecting this water to the San Lorenzo River flooding the last Chinatown in Santa Cruz.
