the birth of the torchbearer
"honey, honey" by abba was always lily and mary's song. they both loved marlene, but that song was reserved especially for the two of them. whether they were celebrating something, dancing around the dorm... it even played during their first kiss. fast forward a few years later, when mary struggles to remember, she never fails to play that very record. over and over. because every time, she sees a flash of red hair and the echo of laughter.
Bully....I love u bully.....bully...........yay!
Jekyll’s and Utterson’s relationship is nice, but meaningless in all of it. They’re close, but it doesn’t truly give them anything with how their lives are. It all goes to shit anyways, because while sure; they can show surface level warm and care for one another, they cannot engage in a way which would help either of them. They still both carry guilt for the way they are, and they can’t do anything about it because they don’t engage with it in a way which helps them change for the better. Well. More so Jekyll here
As much as offering help is nice, in a society which doesnt permit closeness it’s useless
if you like either one of these streamers you should watch my new videooooo
my least favorite part about vol 1 is the whole steve vs johnathan for nancy thing. i think love triangles are very rarely done properly and this is yet another example of them falling flat.
but me and my sister were discussing it and i think she brought up a great point-- at the end of the day steve is chasing validation. maybe even love. he goes on date after date to try and get something-- to experience a genuine spark with someone. he doesn't get enough of it from his parents as they're literally never around, and the person who he clicked with the most turned out to be gay (shoutout to robin), so he can't seem to find a girl that makes him happy.
the last girl he had something good with was nancy. he dated her before he really knew about all the upside down shit, a time where life was easier and less dangerous. he was popular, athletic and cool. now he's a guy who works at a radio station silently protecting the world or whatever. so... he wants her back-- not really for her (although obviously nancy is great), just because he wants to feel something similar to what they had before. so he (in my opinion) has sort of digressed and returned to the way he behaved in season 1 when him and her were together. "if she liked me like this then she'll like me like this now", ignoring the fact that both of them have changed so much since then.
another thing!!! even dustin is pulling away from him right now! a kid who previously toted him as like, the coolest guy ever! so the only person who's fully in his corner is robin. and now robin has a girlfriend. so poor steve harrington, right? he's feeling lonely, surely. i think he needs to recognize that him changing is okay, and that leaning on friends and platonic validation is okay, and that he may not be traditionally cool but he still is pretty epic. and that he's not gonna get nancy back, probably.
this was sort of word vomit but i had to get it out.
