So fucked. The EU Commission has been pulling it’s leg right now and it feels like they’ve gone to full fledged divorce battle mode
there’s also national assembly elections in june that might empower the far right at the local level and produce a far-right PM, giving Macron an excuse to shed the centrist mask and put on the diet fascist mask.
but le pen is right, even if she loses this election, she’s already won a massive victory. front national is the only political party running a president, the center-right political vacuum that fascism thrives in is settling in for the long haul.
le pen is also right that, ‘after sunday no matter who wins, france will have a woman as its leader, either her’ or Holy Roman Empress Angela Merkel (and when that becomes clear it’ll strengthen FN for 2022), and she’s really the big winner here. She’ll have a united-enough Europe against the UK and for the first time since the EU’s been a thing, the germans won’t have any hands tied behind their back since France will be too politically weak to over-influence the EU.
melenchon/”purity” leftists will also be winners because once macron eats shit, they can’t be portrayed as endorsing the problem. it can pay political dividends for the left in france if macron wins.
