Vous pensez peut-être que la vie de novice bouddhiste est tranquille, méditative et détaché du monde... sachez donc que les moines et les novices possèdent des ensembles de règles pour les guider dans leur vie, règles résumées dans un ouvrage, le Patimokkha, comprenant les 227 règles fondamentales, réparties en sept sections. Ce texte est récité les jours de pleine et de nouvelle lune en présence de tous les moines résidant à ce moment au monastère. Pour les moniales, il existe 331 règles. C'est ainsi que les moines bouddhistes observent les Préceptes définissant une vie de renoncement et de simplicité.
