Sometimes I wonder a bit about the whole Tragedy of Duscur bit. Like were there previous attempts on Lambert’s life (wouldnt be surprised tbh)? Did Lambert, and Rodrigue I guess, have some vague idea something bad was going to happen? In the flashback with Lambert and Rodrigue right before the Tragedy, the one Rodrigue has while he’s dying, Lambert has Rodrigue promise to make sure Dimitri grows up into being a good person if he dies.This makes sense in the grand context of what happened, but it’s kind of weird for that one particular moment since Lambert clearly didn’t know he was going to get offed. A bit earlier in the same flashback, Lambert said that things between Faerghus and Duscur had been going “well” so I don’t see why Lambert would have had a cause to say that whole “if something happens to me...” bit to Rodrigue. There’s probably a simple explanation for this but it’s something that low key bothers me since I heard it because it sort of sounded like Lambert was expecting at least something to go wrong

I kind of took Lambert saying that as a ‘just in case’ type of thing, given that Rodrigue was being a fussy worrywart over the King himself making the expedition. From the things he says, it was kind of a “I know the worst can happen, but it’s very unlikely. Regardless, if something did happen to me, I trust that you’ll take care of him in my stead.” 

It just so happened that the absolute worst thing did occur. Lambert must have the worst luck in all of Fodlan. 

That’s how I feel, at any rate.
