For the Headcanon meme is it okay to ask for an oc? If so how about Lang Su? Been a while since we’ve seen her.
You guys are making me feel bad for not taking her out for lunch every now and then--
What they smell like: Clean laundry, sometimes faintly of blood and dirt.
How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): It gets less sporadic over time, but she occasionally wakes up in the middle of the night. She tries to keep her schedule regular.
What music they enjoy: Guzheng
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: As much as you need to put on armor. Otherwise she doesn’t.
Their favorite thing to collect: I’m feeling embroidery and flowers. She doesn’t really collect all that much usually.
Left or right-handed: I’m inclined to say right handed, but she could be ambidextrous due to wielding dual hookswords.
Religion (if any): I don’t really think of religions for my characters.
Favorite sport: I can’t pick one for certain but if we did modern day, she might be into volleyball.
Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Local food and sightseeing! She likes walking and looking.
Favorite kind of weather: A warm, sunny day.
A weird/obscure fear they have: Gotta wear shorts under her skirts always. It’s not gonna exactly protect her if she gets hit or falls on something, but hey.
The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: Archery or anything having to do with darts.
You say Zhu Ran but I swear every time I see a post about Lu Xun I swear you liked it. I'm just teasing you tho~ But if that's the case who do you prefer Lang Su to be shipped with?
I’ve seen fewer Zhu Ran content tbh I feel like it’s his hair--it’s the hair isn’t it. #1 reason I can’t draw him
I have less debate on this one: Zhu Ran.
I like both men because they feel to me like they’d be good matches, but Ran would really force Su out of her comfort zone so she can start healing--because he really isn’t a bad guy and she knows this. He just loves being on fire. So there’s a bit of compromise and understanding between the both of them when they realize that there’s a problem going on, and that they both have to meet in the middle. And that’s when they start to make effort and really see each other as something other than what they’ve presented.
It’s actually one of my favorite stories, minimal angst.
On your personal tumblr you said Su is one of your favorite OCs but on this one you say that you're half on and half off about her, and that with her you're the harshest. Personally think she's a good character but was wondering what about her do you not like? Why is she one of your favorites despite all this?
This made me think a bit. I apologize for the long post because I wasn’t sure how to pinpoint specific points.
Thanks for saying that! I’ve heard a fair share of people going she’s terrible so that means a lot when people tell me she’s a good character.
TL;DR: Because her character is set in stone and I can’t easily change it to cover when people tell me she’s a terrible character. But I love her because she shows a lot of growth in the end of a long ride, moving on and living a life she doesn’t regret. She learns not to let it consume her, and she matures rather nicely. And when I think about that and what I have planned for her, I’m really proud of her and it feels like a long-awaited finish line for her.
... Also I have had a lot of fun writing for her.
The sentiment isn’t as strong as it was way back when, luckily. But occasionally, I feel it at certain points.
I’ve been an RP’er since I was about 13, so I was always cautious and trying to observe how other people write their characters. Even now, I pay attention to what people say, even just a bit and mull it over. So it’s come sometimes to the point that I just can’t prove she has a place or why she is. My characters shape and evolve and a lot of times, tell me who they are. I just write down what flows together just right.
I say half and half because I’ve almost always had a love hate affair with the way I’ve written her. ‘Is it too much, is it not enough, why can’t she be this way?’ She’s one of the ones I have that have the more difficult past so I’m always concerned that it comes off as fake, too little, not enough, too much etc. And if you’ve stuck around a long time, you’ve probably seen a fair share of feedback that she’s a terrible character. And that really stayed with me because I thought about it and I saw that there was a point deep inside the madness. Su, why are you so freaking depressed?
Everyone else had an amazing character who persevered through their trials, and some much more grueling than hers. But she still remained traumatized and it largely left her without a true sense of self for a time.
The sad part was that I loved what I wrote for her. I didn’t want to change it, because that’s how she was for a long time. It made sense to me, and it made sense to the others I ran it by, because some people just don’t heal the same way.
…Of course, the big point here is that this is an RP blog. I’m not going to put her at her best automatically unless we’ve discussed it. And I really want her to establish some relationships with others, and let her change naturally through storylines we share. It feels more…real(?) that way and none of us have to pull bunnies out of thin air aha.
She remains one of my favorites because the game series has a special place in my heart/I was able to meet so many people, have so many fun times and watch her get into hijinks and she was one of my first OCs AND RP blog, so she kind of grew up with me. And as I grew older, I entertained the possibility Su CAN overcome her fears and make a life for herself. Out of my other OCs, she has one of the bigger obstacles–and that’s internal–so I’m very proud of her for doing that…even though I haven’t written it down on paper. Ironically enough, I also saw her as a character who was very flexible while I was writing her, because her development changed depending on who I wrote her interacting with or in which kingdom.
The woman I envision she becomes doesn’t change so much from the Su we see, but she’s better controlled about her nightmares and traumas. Her style of self-sacrificing definitely isn’t as strong anymore, she doesn’t feel the need to be useful/worth the air she breathes as much. Perhaps she won’t find a graspable purpose in life, and that’s okay, because she has other things and people that make that okay.
This is one of the worst questions you could ask me--
Goro Akechi.
I’m kidding.
Lang Su: I remember one anon had an issue with her, but frankly, I thought she was probably one of the most depressing and realistic--for lack of a better word--characters I have. She doesn’t get over her past, and there are no therapists. But when she learns to get past it, the change is there, she doesn’t look back and I’m really proud of her.
Zhu/Shi Ji: Su and Zhu Ran’s hypothetical son. He comes from a good family with good parents. But he learns firsthand that war is never going to be easy. And he suffers just waiting for a chance to help fix the country. His case is reverse of Su’s; he dies with so many regrets, young and ill--a husk of the former brightness.
Nomura Ayana: Did you think I wasn’t going to put her here? I think she’s cute. She’s a nice mix. Compared to the rest of the Thieves, she’s more uncomfortable with the fame but she’s in it because this is the only way she perceives she can ever have an impact on the mindset of society that’s done them all wrong somehow. And sure, she’ll give her boyfriend a break when she knows he’s lying or avoiding something, but that doesn’t mean she will let everything slide. She’ll confront him when she has to, and she’s firm in a way my other OCs don’t usually show. That and she’s really not embarrassed about her sexuality--with her lover, that is.
send me a pairing and i’ll tell you who….Zhu Ran and Lang Su, because I don’t have much for them here, if at all!
proposes -He has to, it’s traditional, considering he has to ask her relatives for permission…and the closest one besides her Wei relatives is…her younger sister. Or they could ask his colleague…Lu Boyan. That would be awkward to ask someone younger than him.
shops for groceries -Su
kills the spiders -Do they even care in 200AD He would probably set them on fire when she’s not looking.
comes home drunk at 3am -He might. It wouldn’t be very becoming of her to.
remembers to feed the fish -Su, I think.
initiates duets -Ran.
falls asleep first -Ran works later hours sometimes because of his rank but on a normal day, he’d conk out first because as excitable as he is, he still adheres to certain things.
plans spontaneous trips - Ran. He’s her superior, he could get away with it.
wakes the other up at 3am demanding pancakes - Su wouldn’t so much as demand, but request. She’s probably super hungry.
sends the other unsolicited nudes - How do you send nudes in this era
brags about knowing karate even though they never made it past yellow belt - Su’s way too shy to lie, so maybe Ran.
comes to a complete halt outside bakeries/candy shops - Su, probably because she’s wondering if she should buy something for the others later. I don’t think he minds.
blows sarcastic kisses after doing ridiculous shit - Ran.
killed the guy (also, which hid the body) - It could be either! She’s done a lot of killing. And so has he, but he’s of a higher status, so who knows if he’s had to hide them. I imagine he’s got a better grasp at alibis.
wears the least clothing around the house - Su, because her casual attire is really just a dress and some undergarments or so.
has icky sentimental moments for no apparent reason -Su, possibly. It’s dynasty warriors - - people get sentimental!
Do these count? I have one of her DW6 (that somehow also ended up being 7) design, but that one was...not when I knew how to draw well.
The first two, 3 and 4, were actually done on bases because I couldn’t draw to save my life. So that’s not getting linked here since I ended up revamping them for this piece.
I’ve also got one that’s just her sitting and drying her hair and it’s kinda nsfw...
