I can’t express how much I loved Language Jam. My language this time was Romanian and I was just so thrilled ^-^. It was really intense too, so I am a bit tired, but it was definitely worth it!

#LangJam #Day3 (Last day, so I'm just going to do a wrap up.) --- I think for the next one, I'm going to use the prep phrase to figure out short term goals, get listening practice in (i.e. immersion,) etc. However while doing this and trying to stay on point with the other 2 I'm studying, I felt like my brain was overheating. I thought to myself, "How in the WORLD do polyglots make this happen? Maybe I should stick to one..." And as soon as I thought that, I was immediately sadden by the thought of dropping the other languages on my wishlist simply because it's "too hard." --- I also think I should stick to what works for me. Not learning grammar first left me feeling like I was walking in the dark. Sure it's a three day challenge, but I feel like I will stick to what I know next time. So today I'm focusing only on listening. VERY difficult for me to do because I'm obsessed with grammar, so it's like putting my favorite dish in front of me and telling me I can't eat it. --- As I listen to this podcast I hear sounds from Spanish, French and maybe even slightly Arabic or Germanic sounds... It's a strange feeling, but it makes me curious about it's origin. 😀 Speaking might be a challenge, but it might be easier for me to speak this language in comparison to reading... for reasons I mentioned previously. 😅 #LangJam https://www.instagram.com/p/B-PSv0Mljcl/?igshid=1eexf8xli78ww

#LangJam Day 1: So I already announced this, but I got Afrikaans! I'm excited because I actually want to learn this someday, but during the prep phase I realized this will be super hard for me. Certain words very close to English, so I'm tempted to use English pronunciation... 😅 (I guess this is what I should expect when I learn Portuguese with a Spanish background. 😆) --- Since it's a three day challenge, I want to be able to introduce myself, say my favorite color, languages I'm studying and count to ten in Afrikaans. I’m planning to join this LangJam! I got Japanese, and though Japanese wasn't a language that I were very interested in learning, I’m excited to see how all this will go.

I can’t assure I’ll study very much, ‘cause although I’m in quarantine I’ve lot of homework and proyects for school to do but I’ll try my best.

I’m thinking of doing a three day language cram session - like an impromptu single person langjam - this weekend. I’m thinking of doing either German or Korean. See how far I can get in three days. If I can make a good start, I may even continue after the weekend.

Langblr thoughts

The langblr community is great and inspiring and I've found out so many interesting things since I created this blog... :)

However, it's pretty maddening to see people always making drama. The langjam challenge is about indigenous and threatened languages : people will tell you it's bad cause it harms the communities and don't help the peoples who don't want you to learn their language BTW.

Bullshit : this is just an opportunity to make people learn about other cultures hoping that they'll be more understanding of other people. The challenge has never been to save the language but just learn and sympathize. Plus, it's a way for associations, groups, peoples and tribes to have publicity and sometimes money as polyglot might buy books from them or even donate money.

Also there's always this discussion over langblr being too Europe-centered but when people learn non-European languages that aren't really mainstream you'll get this discussion that it's cultural appropriation and you have nothing to do with it...

Cut the drama and go find another hobby.
