Is your child ready for a kindergarten? What is school readiness?
School readiness is not just readiness for school. What does school readiness involve?
Self-regulation & careIs he/she is toilet trained (daytime), can open the lunchbox or unwrap the food, and he responds clearly to the instructions at home.
Attention and concentrationFor attending the kindergarten classes, he/she should be able to sit, listen and work on tasks for at least 10 minutes.
Emotional Regulation. We don't expect 4 years old to control emotions completely, however, the child is emotionally ready for school if he can perceive the good and bad feelings, and understand his/her own emotions.
Appropriate social and play skillsHe/she has to display the ability to share and accept shared items, compromise and say sorry when at fault. Teach your child to perform well in a group activity. Tip: try some group activities at home first.
Language and cognitive skillsApart from counting numbers, reading the alphabet, reciting poems, or even dancing activities, your 4-year-old needs to deliver his speech or language in such a way that it can be understood by teachers or peers.
