Wukong was laughing, fluttering around him as Macaque spun on his heel, this way and that, trying to keep up with him.
"No— stop—Wu, I need to-" he snorted, finally hooking his tail to their ankle and yanking. It was hardly what you could call a stumble, but she turned and looked at him and he took the chance to snag her sleeve, pulling her close. The way he heard the hitch in their breath made his stomach knot, and he smiled, leaning in when she breathed out another fit of giggles. Macaque went to press their mouths together and she jerked her head, leaning away with a wink.
Finally, huffing a laugh, he wound his tail around his. She paused, blinking and he let the distraction go just long enough to cup their face in his hands.
Macaque laughed, breathless against their lips,
"Can't you stay still this one time, Peaches?" The way her grin brightened and eyes shone with the moon, reflecting him and the world they shared; Oh, he only fell deeper.
"But it's so fun to let you catch me," Wukong teased. He hummed, letting that smile of his own edge closer to hers.
"What can I say? You pull me in every time." Their lips met gently, a face leaning softly into steady hands. If he was the moon, then Wukong was not the sun; He was the Earth— something he could never resist the draw of, and he never wished to.
A snippet I call "Regret." Unsure if I'll finish it anytime soon, but it's been about a month since I've written it so I thought I may as well post it :).
Context: Sun Wukong's amnesia issue, however he wakes up directly in the moment that he originally fought Macaque. In reality MK and the real Macaque are forced to watch him kill a random demon in a blind rage. Macaque assumes the worst, as usual.
Macaque scoffed bitterly, not having to turn to know how battered and broken the poor demon was, beaten into the ground. "Here comes the gloating," he muttered.
It never came. The six-eared macaque stilled in the silence, listening. Waiting for the painful cheering and hollering at another victory won by The Great Sage.
"What have I done?" Sun Wukong crumpled to the dirt, a horrified sob leaving him as he fumbled to stand and make his way to the corpse. "No, no, no, no no nono— I- I didn't mean it, I'm sorry—please, nonono—"
The demon turned to look at him. Wukong was sobbing. Cradling, in his delusion, the mutilated body of Macaque. He didn't gloat, he did not celebrate. He screamed in pain and regret, rocking back and forth like it would take it all back. Hoping holding him again would heal the hole clawed into his chest. Would return the heart from where he ripped it out all those years ago.
Macaque stared, trying to quell the shaking of his limbs. His heart burned like someone had left it out to rot in the dirt.
"I'm sorry, Lilac, please—" Wukong's voice quivered and cracked under the weight of loss, "Please wake up."
His stomach fluttered at the nickname even though a bigger part of him felt sick at the sound of it. He could feel MK's stare suddenly bore into the side of his face, skin crawling under the youth's woeful eyes. They both heard the name. Macaque sunk his teeth into the inside of his cheek, unwilling to look at the prodigy and unable to look away from the tragedy in front of him. His tragedy. A story of a hero slaying his warrior in battle now revealed in its truth for all to see: the tale of a lover, forced in their anger to destroy the one he cared about most.
He wasn't sure if it was intrusive to watch his partner cradle his own corpse. By all that made and unmade him, he wasn't supposed to see this. He wasn't meant to be here, watching from the outside, in this moment. Or maybe he was destined to witness it, so that...
As if Icarus hadn't flown too close already, Macaque wondered briefly if he'd ever be able to touch his sun again.
This is my excuse to make them hurt a lot I'm not going to lie to you, been thinking about making posts for it for months now. Trapped in an endless desert with nothing to do but walk and survive.
General Plotpoints
- Due to being undead, the celestial realm has ordered the execution of the Six Eared Macaque now that overworld issues have settled.
- Macaque, not having many options to turn to, picks Xiaotan for help.
- He... doesn't really know where he's going. He had snopped through the kids phone here and there, but didn't want to send an order since he was unsure how long him and MK would take. He decides to head to FFM despite the possible consequences.
- He simply waits for awhile outside the waterfall, but when he thinks he hears Xiaotan and perks up to get his attention... it's Wukong. Fuck, they really are too much alike.
- Macaque is the last thing Wukong wants to see, but before he can say anything, a guard rises from the ground to cleave into Mac. He immediately rushes and gets him out of the way, and demands answers.
- "I.. was only gonna tell the kid about this—"
- "Macaque, MK wouldn't know the first thing about how to handle this." He shuts up and let's Wukong speak. Hes had to swallow his pride to save his own life before, hes gonna have to do it again.
- The only idea Wukong can conjure would be to reinstate Macaques life, writing it into the book of life and death, and then erasing it once more so he's been made immortal in an ""official" way.
- They travel for a short while, eventually coming to the library in Lantern City. There, they meet Shen. Wukong mistakes this for Erlang Shen being illusive, and thinks it's a knowledgable attempt to help them. This was actually a gentleman named Shen whose well endowed in magical arts, and gives them a way to relocate the passage to Diyu's realm as best he can... However, hes still a student and learning, and the path had some misdirection. For all of this mortal Shen's good intentions, the directions were incorrect.
- Upon seeking the entrance to Diyu's realm, and trusting 'Shen's' advice, they open the gate and prepare to face trials to pass into the underworld.
- They are greeted with a vast, endless desert. They wander for weeks, alone. But... there is something wrong with Macaque.
- The "vast desert" is, in reality, the inside of a calabash. They beleive this is a trial to find Diyu, so they are unable to understand this was intended as a permanent trap. Since you must be concious of the trap to evade it, they are stuck until Xiaotan, Xiaojiao and Red come looking for Wukong.
- With no one running a script for the illusion, and Macaque's magic being heavily based in such, his magic reacts with the calabash poorly and has him reliving moments of his life sporadically, causing odd emotional episodes between him and Wukong.
- The only tell is when the sky turns red and the sun goes black, the next thing Wukong knows hes forced to face apart of his past that may be sweet, or agonizing. From moments they spent lying in fields, to bloody fights, hes left traveling with echoes and memories of the original Macaque. The pain of reliving what he'd rather forget is excruciating.
Appearances:
Sun Wukong
- Wukong in this had modified his clothing through the journey in the desert due to overheating. He wears a sleeveless pale tunic with knotted buttons, and minimal armor consisting of a golden pauldron, along with gold arm and shin guards. He had been wearing boots, and chose to go barefoot due to the heat. His pants have been tied with scraps so that they're closer to shorts, tied off just above his calves. Any hair past his chin besides his long bangs has been cut to the scalp.
- His skin is freckled from the sun, and hair flecked with gold. His markings have turned to a more vibrant peach, and two have begun to resurface in half circles on his jawbone on either side. The end of his eye marking that stopped at his nose has shot down past and ends at his chin.
Macaque
- Macaque wears too many layers. Wukong has tried to convince him to remove them so he doesn't struggle with the heat, but being undead has a few pros. The chill in his bones keeps him alive, ordinarily the thick hanfu he wore would have killed him by now. He actually wears the clothes he wore in season two during Shadow Play, he had changed into layers in Lantern City and kept the scarf at his waist, along with his red armor pads tucked against his sides, and let the robe rest over it all. Wukong was able to get his shoes off so his feet wouldn't cook in them and untie the hanfu, but it was an odd argument full of delusion and left a bad taste in his mouth.
- His eyes are sharp and over time white seeps into think streaks in his fur. His markings don't alter very much, but there is some red along his jaw and the skin on his hands and face grows a bit darker. The calabash has a hard time fitting him into the illusion as well and making it look like time has passed on him, due to the shadows own magic interfering.
- The difficult part of all of this though, is the fact that Macaque's glamour is completely gone. After the first episode of amnesia, the glamour had dropped and with all of the illusive fluctuations in his magic he's not even entirely aware they're gone. His scars are apparent, his fur long and six ears visible. He keeps his long bangs mostly tucked behind his ears out of it being a habit of his past self.
