I thought it was just the past talking but wow, Lapis still fucking sucks.
All of her work to get better, and she literally stayed on ground zero. Just as in the begining of the first season, she just wanted to run and hide, then took all of Peridot’s stuff with her.
What the actual fuck, Lapis? She just wanted to leave and was ready to do it before Peridot protested that she wanted to bring the rest of her life. Lapis just took everything with her to fuck off to the moon, she had next to no need for any of the stuff. What use is the equipment to her?

Lapis is basically a 70s-80s action movie white dude.
Stone faced, disregarding other people’s feelings, with some “tragic” backstory we know little about other than that it happened, overpowered and jumping at the last scene to save everyone, with a “witty one-liner”.
Make Lapis a dude and she would be no different than those edgy anime boys, whose only quality is their PTSD and anti-social behaviour; and who eventually turn to the dark side, only to be randomly reverted back to the good side by the end of the story, ignoring all the shit they did.
Boy!Lapis destroying Peridot’s recorder, making decisions without asking her and stealing all of her belongings, would be considered a giant asshole by the fandom and feminists would be at his throat.
Lapis is basically all these tropes we cringe at in male characters in media, but somehow when she represents them it’s a-ok.

but yeah, as a writer, it really pisses me off how they brought lapis in like that. its called the grenade rule. if your character uses a grenade in act three, then you need to establish it exists in act 1. NOTHING earlier in the episode, or season, says that lapis would come help them, or that she was even aware of the diamond coming to earth. they could have cut to her real quick reacting to the sight of their ships. in fact, everything we've been shown about lapis is quite the contrary, she would NOT come and help them, shes afraid and selfish and only cares about herself, which has been shown as cannon since at least jailbreak.

also, lapis character was handled shittily in the new episode, they keep flip flopping her back and forth, and you know when they bring jasper back that they're just going to have her fuck off back into space again saying she cant trust anyone
i just... like lapis just faces no repercussions for what she did to jasper, or ANYONE. like, bc jasper was a homeworld gem and was doing her job/what she believed was right, she's treated as this vicious monster who is pure evil. meanwhile lapis abused jasper just as badly (to the point where jasper was reliant on her and believed she was in love with lapis), and even admitted to liking to abusing jasper, and constantly violently lashes out against people and hurt everyone, regardless of is she cared about them or not, and gets a free pass bc "wait no, she's actually nice, she was just scared/wanted to go home"
i want a lapis episode where this is brought up, i want a lapis episode where peridot and other gems call her out for how horribly lapis treated all of them, and they all have to pretend like everything is fine because shes "fragile" or some shit, and she isn't forgiven. i mean honestly! lapis treated peridot like shit! she was awful to her, and they're probably going to pretend like nothing ever happened, or peridot is just glad shes back, or they forgive her again bc "she was just scared"
look at bismuth! she tried shattering steven, and even though her intention were out of anger/fear of steven going to poof her again and lock her away, she was poofed and wasnt even brought back until they felt like it was convenient for them. lapis nearly killed not only steven, but connie as well. like actually kill them by drowning them! because she wanted to go back to homeworld! they were both attacking for selfish reasons, but lapis gets treated as the fandom favorite for reasons i dont even know, and the staff favorite because she represented rebecca in a comic she made about someone who abused her or something, and because of that lapis isn't going to have to deal with the repercussions for how shitty shes been acting
Ok but aside from helping beat the Diamonds what exactly has Lapis done to deserve to be a Crystal Gem? Peri had a redemption ark and her transition into the team was bealiavle. Lapis runs away, takes the barn even though she was willing to leave it behind until Peri brought it up, nearly sends Steven into the vacuum of space, and she just gets to come back and be a considered a Crystal Gem? It just doesn't sit right with me.
Me: I kind of went off Lapis after the whole forced fusion thing and keeping Jasper trapped all that time -
Her: Because you’re hella gay for Jasper.
Me: Well, she was scarred by literally thousands of years of being trapped in a gem and then took it out on the Homeworlds who had left her trapped using Jasper as a proxy, but being abused isn’t an excuse to continue that cycle on somebody else and it seems to be getting worse rather than better as the series goes on judging by some recent episodes.
