i humbly request some pre-observer block BUD tech info dumping, if you're up for it!

THIS is one topic i'm not as suuuuper familiar with because I did not touch redstone much until after observers were already a Thing, but I know a fair amount still

To recap for anyone unfamiliar with the terminology, "BUD" stands for "block update detector", they're a rather niche part of redstone that is hardly ever used these days due to the existence of observer blocks, but were quite useful back in the day. It's considered a bug, but it's one of the many "useful bugs" in the game mechanics that was never fixed because there wouldn't be a satisfying way to introduce the same sort of game mechanic in a "non-buggy" way. Essentially, if a block is "BUD-powered", it means that it is technically powered by redstone, but the block doesn't know it's redstone-powered until it receives any kind of block update. Thus, block update detector. It's useful for more than just detecting block updates, too, but I'm not sure that I can get into the specifics without reeeally digging deep.

Some lesser-known background on BUD switches: The reason "BUD switches" were ever a thing in the game at all? Doors. Back in the day, when they introduced doors, mojang wanted them to interact with redstone, but because they're technically comprised of two blocks, they just couldn't get it to work unless you specifically gave a redstone signal to the bottom part of the door. The hacky workaround solution they had was to just make the top half of the door open anyways, causing a block update, which would then inform the lower half of the door "hey, you're actually being powered by redstone!", so it could open too. This was never limited to just doors though, and thus it became an intrinsic part of redstone mechanics which could cause a lot of accidents, but also a lot of innovations when utilized intentionally.

I wish I could tell more about just how BUD power was utilized in the older days of mc redstone, but it's been a long time since I delved into technical minecraft stuff, and even longer since BUD-switches were ubiquitous! One thing I can say is; if you've ever messed around with pistons, you've probably experienced bud power yourself, and wondered, "why the heck is that piston getting powered..."

a good thing to remember about hydration is that even if you feel hydrated, if your pee is still yellow or yellowish, you're not hydrated enough!

I’ve heard light yellow is the ideal. Clear is a bit too much water! But yeah that’s an easy way to check!
