Mine is that the reason there a few military testing videos online of primitive laser weaponry, but aforementioned weaponry isn't heavily publicized is because it's actually meant to be a subtle flex in some unseen dick measuring contest between varying super powers. Where the weaker lasers that we see aren't even the ones really being tested, that that tech might be 10-25 years older than what's really in the labs...
To further add to this... well, it's an unspoken but well known fact that places like Area 51 are actually made for testing experimental weaponry like this, but it embraces the whole "Grey Aliens" thing because it gets most people off their backs and makes any potential information leaked by a whistle blower harder to find as they have to filter through a billion alien, religious, and Atlantis conspiracy "theories"
... it might also be possible that experimental space travel tech is used in such places, but not any "anti gravity" sci-fi shit, just prototypes of space planes that'll be used in the 2100s-2300s-
