Caption: Fancy lamp shade
I bought a wall lamp from the thrift store that had a cracked glass shade. I removed the glass shade and replaced it with a new wooden one. I was worried about how to make sure the original screw-holes in the lamp would line up with the new shade, so I cut a test piece in cardboard first to try things out and adjusted from there. The gold cut-outs are intended to look vaguely Art Deco / Craftsman. They were cut out in pieces, painted with gold acrylic, then glued in place on top of the dark-stained wood panels.
The cut-out design at the top of the lamp mimics the stained glass window in the front door (on the opposite side of the room from where the lamp is hanging). I took a photo of the window, traced over it, and voila! a matching lamp. :)
I had a big map of Texas hung up for a long time in a high-traffic hallway and over the years it suffered a lot of wear and tear. I hung on to it through the move and was reluctant to throw it out. This summer I finally got inspired to rip it up and do something fun with it. Hooray!

I like to pretend their ashes are in there.
These ceramic jars came from my mom, who thinks they belonged to a great-aunt at one point. They were originally painted with white with green and yellow details, but that didn't go very well with the goth library aesthetic I was trying to cultivate in this room. The labels used to say things like "tea" and "coffee" and maybe "sugar" was the third one? I've forgotten. Anyway, I wanted new labels that would still be readable when everything was spray-painted black. So i cut the names out of some thick card stock and then glued them onto the canisters. When you've got a laser cutter, every craft project suddenly seems to need cutting!
