[MV] IU: You and I

IU’s video for “You and I” was my first exposure to her work. The music video is preceded by a lengthy introduction sequence which sets the scene admirably. The production team created a highly detailed world for this one short journey, and I notice something new every time I revisit this video.

The song itself is upbeat and catchy, which contrasts nicely with a potentially grim scenario of this boy who cannot awaken. The energy of the orchestration builds a powerful feeling of hope and confidence. Dramatically, that is critical to the storyline being successful to me; if it had gone maudlin, I doubt the video would have entranced me in the way it has.

Thematically, the notion of time lost weaves itself into every layer of the video. The sets, the dancing, and the plot work together to make this experience more than I could have hoped.

I love that goose.
